I have another car to drive in the mean time, so contemplating if I should wait or buy the FXT now. One consideration is the upcoming VES in 2018.

Probably best to get the car this year as current CEV surcharge is 5k compared to 20k VES surcharge next year.

As for when exactly to buy this year, watch the price and freebies they provide. I think current pricing is a little high (127k) without much freebies. Most likely cause they've sold quite a number of FXTs when the COE quote increase was announced and the price went down to 121k.

Maybe be patient and wait for the next COE bid to see where prices go.

Anyway, that's my 2 cent advice from my own experience.

I bought my FXT at 130k when COE ticked up from in early Jan (when SE was expecting it to go down). Was worried that COE will increase, and then the day after I got my COE, LTA announced the increase in COE quotas and the price of the FXT immediately went down quite a bit.  [:(]

I was quoted $125800 for the FXT last week.

Is this a good price to commit?

The LTA VES bands can be found here:

https://www.lta.gov.sg/apps/news/page.aspx?c=2&id=08685840-d664-4713-9ccb-96dcd8936d08

FXT's CO2 emissions are at 197 g/km which is above the 185 g/km threshold on band C2 (which is 20k surcharge)

Now 5k surcharge , is it mean if u scrap ur car 10 year later , this 5k will add to OMV ?

Example , OMV:18k, so 10 year later then scrap value is 18k + 5k ( CEVS surcharge)=23k, PARF=23k x 50%=$11500, am I right ?

Surcharges do not add to anything except GOV coffers.

Buy now:

Avoid the additional VES charge

AD maintain or increase the price knowing that there will be a rush buying before end of this year

By next year:

Get the additional VES charge

Lower COE

Latest model

The choice is quite obvious

Just picked my FXT 3 days ago. Done 250km so far of mix city+highway drive at moderate rpm, usually below 2k.

Moving from a CS3, forester xt drive is fantastic. Smooth engine, great visibility, its CVT has less rubber effect compared to the CS3 n wish(which I tested before ordering FXT) .

Throttle response is good, easily climbing to close to 90kph by 1600rpm. By 2k rpm, speed went pass 110kph on straight roads.

Only problem is turning in multistorey carpark with narrow driveways.

Will wait pass first 1k servicing to try S/S# mode and rev more.

While this sounds logically, we will never know the price for next year.

Buy when you can afford and need the car.

Just follow owner manual. You can go up to higher rpm. Can't remember is 3.5k or 4k. No problem.

You should not keep at constant rpm. Move at a variable engine speed as per owner manual.
