Viking75 Neutral Newbie September 27, 2015 Share September 27, 2015 Been following this forum since July. Tks to all fellow contributors, it made my decision to buy the XT so much easier. I been driving XT for the past month already, enjoying every moment of the drive. Was driving QQ+2 prior. It had some problems and i decided to change car. Comparing the QQ+2 (version before this facelift) and XT, QQ no fight. QQ was so sluggish. FC was not good (slightly worse than XT). Perhaps the current QQ might do better than mine. Anyway, i lost confidence with Nissan and so didnt consider QQ or Xtrail. Test drive a few cars. Didn't consider much of continental cars as find Jap cars more trustworthy and more decently priced. Mazda CX-5 .... my second best choice. Decent and smooth drive, nice shape, better FC, more modern interior. Mazda 6 wagon - this is a beauty (well, at least to me) Lexus NX - Sluggish, not worth the big price difference CLA - Squeezy and sluggish B200 - Sluggish, too family-oriented... lacked the fun element Outback - more luxury, not bad, priced slightly higher than XT Forester (XT and premium) - like the XT for its Turbo. never sluggish, power whenever u need, can't feel any gear change. For freebies when buying Subaru, errr........ better dun have too much expectation. Floor mat ok. Cargo Step panel.... possible, Car camera.... not likely Solar film... comes with already (However, my CO finds it no good and we replaced with Vcool.
Viking75 Neutral Newbie September 27, 2015 Share September 27, 2015 Since u have already test drive, probably u have already lock with the said SE. Why still asking for other SE? Regarding the gear change sound, i believe i have the same experience. My XT do give a 'thudd' sound when i change from D to R or when P to R previously. I have 'resolved' or found the issue. i believe it is the speed of us changing gear..... we are too fast haha. It is more apparent when the car is 'cold'. I have since slow down on the speed of gear changing. Be gentle and a couple seconds slower. In any case, i did bought up the issue when i send for my first servicing, Yes, the Service Representive said it is normal. The current gear stick was made tighter verus the previous versions (which said to have more freeplay/more loose). They tuned the gear stick and made it not as tight. It work well since and i also continue to be slower in gearing change. When car is cold, the gear fluid may not have fully distributed and thus the 'thudd' sound occurs more easily. The service guy also say no issue on the gear box. Do make sure that the car is at complete stop before changing gear. The next apparent issue i had was the shuddering of the car, especially when car is cold. Once again, was assured that it was normal. XT is a turbo car, RPM is high (abv 1500 when car is idling) so it is a side effect. And also that the horizontal opposed configuration of the Boxer engine plays a part too. But well, small issue verus the good ride and the power of the XT. Enjoying every moment of it.
Viking75 Neutral Newbie September 27, 2015 Share September 27, 2015 (edited) On FC of XT, i am having at 11.4-12.6L/100km. Not fantastic but very decent for me as it is 80% city driving, 20% expressway and i have a lot of waiting and queuing. It is ever better than my previous QQ+2. I would urge all fellow XT owners to try this. Urban driving -> switch to 'S' Expressway -> Maintain with 'I' Or use 'S' throughout your drive. However, if waiting or queuing, do switch to 'I'. I use 'S' mode most of the time. I do not change from 'S' to 'I' at traffic junction. Will switch to 'I' only when waiting or queuing. Doesn't sound very logical isn't it. hahahah. Well, it does give a better FC for me! Perhaps it is because in 'S' mode, the lighter the need to step on the accelerator. Do try and let me know if the same happens. Axela72 5th Gear September 27, 2015 Share September 27, 2015 May i know why u choose XT over CX-5 if exclude thier power difference? What is their price Difference during yr purchase? Viking75 Neutral Newbie September 28, 2015 Share September 28, 2015 I was test driving the 2.5 luxury CX-5. The price difference was about 20k. Should be around the same price differential as now. As it is a 2.5l car, it will demand a higher road tax too. The price difference is really a lot. XT is really decently priced. Though XT has a lower OMV, but, to me, the upfront price difference matters more. The drive in the XT is really good. Smooth, stable and powerful. This is a major draw for me. The CX5, while it is smooth, loses out in the power and stability (despite it being a 2.5l). I can take corners with XT without much braking (or even without braking) and it feels that ok. For CX5, i can feel the centrifugal force more. Like the CX5, hand brake thou. It is the 'press button' kind. It will be real good if XT comes with it. Outback has this 'press button' hand brake too. The sun roof of XT which can open up is good. But seems i have no use for it. I would prefer to have the automatic sun shade.
Axela72 5th Gear September 28, 2015 Share September 28, 2015 So meaning the 2L CX-5 might be cheaper than XT? Ty I was test driving the 2.5 luxury CX-5. The price difference was about 20k. Rayleigh 6th Gear September 28, 2015 Share September 28, 2015 Hi all, I went down a week ago to test the XT and loved it. I only have a question.. When i came to a complete stop after the test drive, I shifted from D to P and there was a grinding sound and feel on the gear knob. I shifted back to D and moved say a metre and did same, stop with brake pedal fully engaged, shift from D to P, the grinding sound was there again. The SE said it was normal for all Forresters.. Is that true or is the SE not that knowledgeable? And any SE to recommend ? An SE that will be more willing to throw in freebies? I think the lock in period for SE once assigned is one month. Sometimes, the silent SE might gives the best deal. If you have yet to sign, some SE would not want to commit further without prior info on your commitment e.g. loan amount and period etc.

Pioneer 4th Gear September 28, 2015 Share September 28, 2015 (edited) Bro, you really very cute. There is no need to guess which car is cheaper. Sgcarmart and LTA got all the information like OMV and Parf rebate. Price of car should be based on depreciation per year, not solely parf rebate.FXT is $12100 depreciation per year.CX-5 $12700 depreciation per year. (Cheapest model)The 2.5l CX-5 is $13500 depreciation per year. How can it be cheaper the FXT? Even if more the same depreciation, the one with higher parf rebate will imply higher selling price and hence higher interest paid, all things being the same. In term of profit from AD, Mazda is 27%, 25% and 24% profit for the 2.0A, 2.0A Premium and 2.5 respectively. Subaru Forester is 30% and 25% profit for Forester and Forest XT respectively. Price per BHP no need to elaborate. If you are trying to convince yourself to buy another make, then the best way is to avoid this thread. Always see you complain about Forester but still always in the thread. Haha... Bro, buying a car is not so complex. So meaning the 2L CX-5 might be cheaper than XT? Pioneer 4th Gear September 28, 2015 Share September 28, 2015 I used to think handling very important and I have drove a mx-5 before. I was not impressed coz it is quite slow. I realised torque and bhp more important than handling. FXT has more bhp, torque and space than CX-5 and cheaper. I would't say CX-5 is prettier than FXT. One is sleek and modern, the other one is rugged. Different cup of tea altogether. you are so spot on.. got to bear in mind CX5 boot space is 70L lesser.. if always have a lot of barang to put, expample one full child seat etc.. then it worth considering Even if you gear stick pop up from gear box, used-car dealer will also tell you it is normal. If space is of concern..please consider getting a MPV instead.
Sopskysalat 4th Gear September 28, 2015 Share September 28, 2015 Bro, Depreciation per year is useful if one finishes off the 10 year cycles. Else, the parf will play an important component in resale value. Well, to start with higher OMV=100% Parf, i believe the selling price for new unit is higher too. Anyway, selling price will largely depends on prevailing COE price. Tks Bro, you really very cute. There is no need to guess which car is cheaper. Hi Bro, Can I ask if idling rpm is above 1000rpm during traffic stop? 1500rpm at cold start is common even for NA car. But if normal idling stays above 1000rpm for reason like it is a turbo car will mean it is burning more fuel at traffic stop and jams.... Hope someone can clarify. Thank you. The next apparent issue i had was the shuddering of the car, especially when car is cold. Once again, was assured that it was normal.
