Agreed,if it can remove all carbon with 2 bottles of these additives,workshop can close down [furious] .

So this item that has been selling around doesn't work as what it promised.

They advertise as being able to remove roughly 1/3 of the carbon buildup after just 1 bottle. The guy points it out in the video as well.

 

Does it remove carbon buildup? Yes.

Does it remove as much carbon buildup as they claim? No.

If a car runs on day 1 using 98 petrol,i don't think there is any carbon like the one in the Video,carbon built up is from burning engine oil....if those car never 'eat' oil..sure less carbon.

Caltex also got 'little men' inside their petrol to clean the engine. Hehe...power of marketing.

 

Only marketing power - I lost about 0.5km/L because of them. [laugh]

Sometime i find it strange,if a good petrol can remove carbon in the intake,can we says "If" a new car,from the 1st day,till it's last days using V-Power,means what.? -_- No carbon ever form on the intake.?As we knew,anything burnt,sure leave some carbon behind,right.?

 

AFAIK, carbon will always build up on the intake valves.

If a petrol with cleaning additive is used from day one, it will regularly remove these build up.

If a petrol with cleaning additive is used sometime later, it will depend on how effective is the cleaning additive being able to remove the caked up carbon on the intake valves.

 

This will probably apply to port injection and not direct injection. In direct injection, the petrol is "sprayed" into the combustion chamber. In port injection, the petrol is "sprayed" just before the intake valves, the cleaning additive can "work" on the build up of carbon.

 

You can do a search on BMW Walnut Shell Blasting for cleaning of the intake valves.

AFAIK, that is provided that the ron98 petrol can be full burnt. ron98 has a slower burnt rate than ron95.

IIRC, someone reported that between ron95 and ron98, the exhaust from the latter is more pungent.

Works on 2 different cars that are > 5 years old - improve in engine response and "power".

I'd would think so too. While it has cleaning agents, it's marketing that makes it sound like magic, similar to our regular mama lemon adverts.

 

For me it's for regular preventive maintenance. My own tracking purposes, a bottle at the same time when I do oil change.

Here's what I find on my previous petrol car.

 

With regular petrol (any type), the spark plugs tend to be dry, which is good. It means no oil leakage. However, it will normally have a coating of hard carbon around the edge.

 

When I use Redline Fuel system cleaner SI-1, the spark plugs, will look "wetter", reddish in colour due to the dye. But the hard carbon coating now is soft. I can use finger nail to scrap it off, unlike the hardened carbon previously.

 

SI-1 active ingredient is Polyester Amine, PEA, the same chemical invented by Chevron, and found in Techron.

Ron 98 burnt 'cooler',flame colour is 'blue' colour,not sure about Ron 95,but Ron 92 burnt with a 'yellowish' flame,thus more carbon deposit.

I was not there personally, but yes.

It was during idling. IIRC, "something" was missing between the exhaust header and exhaust tip. [laugh]

It is from this aspect that I concluded that if ron98 do not get fully burnt in an engine ( 1.4L NA), the emission will not be optimal and lots more carbon are produced.

AFAIK, it is about how much the ignition timing can be advance and the compression ratio of the engine i.e. higher ron for engine that are of higher compression and/or that can advance the ignition timing.

That's the benefit of cleaning additive.

 

The previous model of my car, on the ground, there are quite a few owners have erratic rpm and fuel gauge issues.

At that time, Shell petrol (before fuelsave) doesn't seem to be suitable.

If cleaning throttle body doesn't suffice, it means changing throttle body. Most change throttle body at least once.

 

I had the car for 9 years and had encountered the same issues in the beginning.

My solution, Caltex 95 with Techron and 3M Intake System Cleaner.

I use the Scangauge II and everytime the TPS goes above a certain number, it's time for the 3M service.

The Caltex95 with Techron keeps the fuel injectors and valves clean. Redline EO keeps the engine clean.

My butt feel is that shell fuelsave 95 is not effective. Given a choice example free fuel of shell95 vs SPC92 & Caltex92, I'll go for Caltex92, then SPC92, then shell95.

If it's out of my own pocket, then it's spc92, caltex92, then shell.

 

No offence to shell95 supporter but the Ron95 totally cmi

Never really calculate but I think it's between 7.5 to 9. Reason being, normally I pump fuel by myself and stop at the first "click" where the nozzle stops and visit the pumps when I have around 1/4 in my tank, hence difficult to determine actual consumption.

 

Old habits die hard, unless when I'm in Malaysia but that's another story. [laugh]

That's why coporate cards users are only allowed to pump max 98. At least for Shell that is so. Cannot use that to pump Vpower. Pity.

 

My fuel card can pump vpower, maybe because it has a cap of $450.

Shell Station is only less than 400m from my place and SPC about 800m but in the last 15 years I still go back to them(SPC) ; I don't really know why too until this forum issue came up; I remember SPC was called BP previously right??

 

Err I think SPC bought over BP's stations when the latter wanted to exit the channel fuel business. BP is British Petroluem, SPC is now owned by PetrolChina, not the same.

Wah after reading through all the enthusiastic responses, I am of the view that each car may react differently with the different fuels in the market.

 

As such, I am looking for fellow 2006-2013 Toyota RAV4 2.4L 4-speed owners. Please share with me what fuel you use for your car, and any particular reason why?

 

I just visited Shell again yesterday and really la, their RON 95 going from bad to worse! :a-no:
