have you guys consider diesel ride? recently I saw 208 and 408.. damn comfortable and solid.

 

208 is like $90k, probably lesser this round.

408, saw in JB, going for only RM70k..

 

I only know diesel is cheaper and efficient while road tax is hefty

maintenance is also low

Thought for newer version diesel cars like Euro 5 engine and above, malaysia petrol pump might not able to support?

In this case no problem considering a diesel car then, esp if will drive the car to malaysia.

1) renew my stream - cost of renewing close to $65K (PQP + loss of $10K parf)

Need to spend some money for major servicing/repair - radiator, mounting, bushing, leaks, etc.

I think need to standby another $4-5k.

 

2) Go for a budget new car like Bezza which is $72k. Headache free for first few years.

Have not owned a MY car so I don't know what to expect when the car hits 5th yr onwards.

 

What do you think?

Should not have much problems on MY car la. If you can get the bezza at 72k, really can consider lo.

The bezza option might be good. No worries about 5th year onwards, can always go north to do servicing, even if go P2 Malaysia to do servicing will still be cheaper than here. Just the time factor only.

Peugeot 208 and 408? Reliability itself is enough to make you want to throw the car away.

It is indeed true that supplies of diesel suited to Euro 5 has started in msia and I came across threads like they are considering 3/4 rule for diesel passenger cars as well? For a small percentage in population of diesel cars, they also wanna weave thru cracks to get these owners I wonder? As if all diesel car owners will specially go top up diesel?

ok, the key question is:

 

when is your coe due?

do you have enough time to time COE?

 

Stream is a good car and probably can catch couple of hundred, should you scrap the car?

Maintenance is still acceptance, 5K is a good figure to play around.

 

if Bezza is as at 72K, its a downgrade for you.

1. You will still be getting the Jap quality plus compact MPV features if you renew but forgo the new car smell and new car experience, remember the day of new car collection experience? Excited, right? How we miss that feeling! The bezza wont drive like the Stream which is a 1.8L car.

 

2. Driven a msia brand, not forgetting my thai Jap too. Diff league diff game, test drive a bezza and you may come back saying you still prefer your stream. To get the bezza does require a mindset change. Stream is a good car thou the Bezza is not a bad car too.

 

An 09 Proton Exora for ie, things may start falling apart, it maybe also the time we grumble it is an inferior car due to its brand and want to move on with a better one (just saying, we are all human after all). But I guess it happens generally to many cars too. The price now for Bezza is for n-guarantee bid, not sure if the drop gonna bring back the demand cos if it does, next round of bidding likely go up and we lose that chance of betting the Bezza. 

 

The dealers have often been doing this, adjusting their prices inclusive of coe to gauge the mkt response and it is like a see-saw (thou I do not agree this qualifies as mkt forces cos the supply source has already been decided).

 

AD like Tan Chong told my friend that Cat C will go down but it didnt, van price at 61k with coe rebate at 22k, he see his van ownership drifting away yet he cant switch due to the agreement of 6 bidding (unless he threw in white towel to say "can top up").

 

He did have the feeling of being felt misled but that is the way the process goes. With 4 more bidding, hopefully CAT C falls closer to 22k to achieve his purchase.

 

Conclusion: Not comparing Bezza with any other makes, I do find Bezza quality reasonable today, I do not feel I am sitting in a msia car thou, it did improve over the years. It is a no-frills car more suited to families thou I wished it has a 1.5L powerplant.

I still have 1 year to decide between renewing or new. I run the analysis based on what it is today.

I do agree that Stream is a reliable workhorse. Perhaps I need to go test drive Bezza one day to see if I like the car.
