If only based on depreciation, some Malaysian new cars can achieve lower depreciation than some COE cars renewed.

Mr obvious. If the equivalent new car has a lower depreciation than the Renewed coe car. Who in the right mind will renew or even keep it.

Strange but used cars by dealers are asking higher annual depreciation than new cars. It is only those owners who will find renewing Coe to be a cheaper option than buying new car. Does it mean dealers are making good monies from used cars?

i had renew my coe. not worth to buy at this price.

My current car annual depreciation still lower than new car.

Take lancer EX or K3 L as example.

84K if can get coe.

Depreciation is around 8K/yr.

Renew coe base on cat A around 52K + scrap value around  maybe 7K gone average.

So works out depreciation is around 5.9K/yr.

So one yr you are paying around 2K extra or $170/mth for new car.

Car park is $110/mth.So you can just treat it as just spending another $100+ buying another parking lot or every mth send car for servicing, acessories, polishing etc...

So actually is not that worth it unless you really like your old car a lot.Of cos we are talking about normal 1.6cc bb car and not vs sport car,mpv etc.

I think both Altis and Civic might see a price drop of $3k versus 4.6k fall in Coe.

Altis drop to $2k to $108k and Civic drop $3k to $112k. The AD doesn't match the Coe drop.

I personally feel these Thai assembled cars like Toyota and Honda are way overpriced.

The strong damage gives the distributors the confidence to price these cars higher than better equipped Korean cars of similar engine capacity.

Even if I were a Japanese fan, I'd rather save $25K - $29K and go for the true blue Japanese assembled Lancer 1.6 at a mere $83K

His COE is his. It would not come to the pool. If he keep, number of deregistrations is one LESS. If he deregisters and get a new, then also no change.

Not a bad choice if your car is in good running condition and satisfies all your needs!

One less COE back to the pool...

Possibly hedging in case there's an increase in demand which might bring Coe up at next bidding exercise.

Civic is coming to one year old in SGP market, soon will be seen as "not so new model", so maybe they have to match or close the price gap from Altis. After all, unlike Altis, this Civic model is not selling like hot cake. Sooner Civic and Altis will be selling  at around the same price range.

If i'm not wrong a very old engine? car is heavy and fuel consumption might not be that good.

if the car buyer has downpayment problem, he should not buy any car.

It just make his life worse.

I think still worth it to use COE car since depreciation is $2k cheaper per year.

my car usage is very low. My 10 years old car mileage only 70,000 km.

well, everyone like new car smell. hahaha...

keep think of change new car but my wallet said no...

It's a bit like go market buy vegetable.

Buy fresh veggie 1 kg $3, buy 5 kg $12, buy 10 kg $20.

Then if don't mind the leftover vegetables after selling, 10 kg $10. Nutrient wise is about the same.

Hmm.... People will not like it when you know how toxic it is.

Another good reason to get a second hand car..... Other than wallet not deep enough.

For most cases, typical running cost base on a 20k a year mileage is easily equal to the car dep per year. for a new B&B car, dep is about 9-10k. Running cost is about the same. Saving of 2k a year is prob 10% only and most people might just want to go new.

Yes the 1.6 is a old NA engine. But the 1.5T is new, however, the model is at least 10k more expensive than 1.6NA which put it into a different price range.
