I got this from WatchPalace about 20 yrs ago.  hardly anyone was wearing a Daytona.

Nowadays its so friggin common.  feel like doing some modding.....give it some reinvented vintage makeover.......

Now so many A++ Fakes around...so from far,the Rolex Sports Models become so common.

A clean modern classic .  One of the better choices for new Rolex.

after they mess up with the case profiles 2 decades ago, Rolex finally understood that the classic look is the way to go for Datejusts, OPs, Subs, GMTs and just about every Rolex model there is.

HK is still one of the best places for watch shopping.  Also has a great cigar community and culture.

my next trip, i will see if i can visit the DiW office.  No money to buy, maybe can look see look see.

Yeah, partly why I dont bother with new modern pieces in general.   Y2K and earlier much preferred.  Whether real of fake, tons of people wearing those.

The only current modern pieces I own now are 2 OPs in green, 41mm and 36mm as couple watch for me and my wife.   The look remained 100% classic OP so its "acceptable" to me.

Also a 2004 116518 early edition Daytona PN dial, which is probably one of the bestest iteration of the gold Daytona

wearing the original Ribena Gold today

Yeah must use loupe and check here and there, although for various models i believe i will be able to tell without loupe in my hands.

My only concern is Rolex is getting bigger. The DJ41, Sub, OP are 41mm, while there are others bigger still. I like the classical size 40mm and below because they sit better on my wrist.

Absolutely.  40mm and 36mm are my go to sizes as well.  I would have very much preferred my OP to be 40 or 39 like the Explorer39 and my TudorGold.

Rolex should never cater to the whims of the Trendy Market.
Sadly they did, in the name of keeping up with the times.
Thats also one reason why my love for Rolex has waned.

Good thing they made a U turn and got rid of the super cases, also trimming down the lugs albeit upping the sizing to 41.

Understandably, Rolex seems to still be looking out more for their European , American market despite it being the number one in Asia, and this part of the world.

New model clasp top vs my old model clasp bottom

New one is Long with angular edges and a poorer design with strap attachment part sticking out.
poor overall design compared to the old model which is smaller with rounded edges and a superior cleaner design

the OysterFlex strap in itself is also a failure

How does the OF strap feel on the wrist? I have neither owned nor tried before.
