The yacht-master 40, imo, is severely underrated. It is a nice watch which should get more attention.

It is great for people who have a sporty-inclination, but at the same time, wanted also some dressiness in the watch. It is a watch that works well  in casual or formal.

The case profile is slim and curvy and even though at 40mm, it wears like a nice 39 or 38 because of how the case look.

I have seen both rhodium and blue version.  The rhodium look elegant, and that baby blue hand is unique. However, contrast is not the best although that rhodium dial looks darker under certain angle.  Still, I find most photos don't do it justice....you need to see it to appreciate how elegant and beautiful it is.

The blue version has an amazing sunburst blue  and that red second hand simply pops.  I have never seen the same sunburst blue on any other watches; that blue is simply mesmerizing. Contrast is good but some don't like that red second hand....so different people different taste.

The  biggest difference in the movement between old and new is the new one has abt 70 hours power reserve. The old one has abt 48 hrs. The advantage of 70 hours power reserve is convenience; they still run over the weekend when one put it down on Friday and pick it up again the following Monday.

You are spot on. The rounded, thinner and Datejust like case (as compared to Submariner and GMT) giving it a dress watch vibe but the rotating bezel is shouting sports.

@BanCoe you can see the difference between both dials in the following videos. Both look nice to me but $$$ not enough. Do you mind sharing with me where is your usual workplace? I want to join you as table wiper... :D

For such a young model (only about 30yrs) the YM has seen the highest number of changes in case profiles in its attempt to differentiate if from the submariner.

original case profile during first launch was same as submariner.  In the late 90s, it changed to a unique case profile which was rounder and seemingly thicker with shorter lugs and longer bracelet endlinks.  Popularity and sales of the YM in that era went down.  It was only with this last change in case profile which is a return to a more submariner look for the 116622 launched with tiffany hands that propelled the YM again into higher popularity.

moral of the story?  Dont fix it when it aint broken.

It applies always to old school classic brands.   Rolex, Porsche, Adidas, LV etc etc…..

The YM has never been in my favourites list except this rarest most expensive version.

first edition fullset solid gold with red rubies on MOP.  Trading around $70-75k today.

Extremely extremely rare as it is the first edition version with submariner case and swiss<t25 dial

It all depends on what kind of strap on what kind of Rolex.  Not every combi is nice or functionally fitting

Nothing wrong with swapping, a little mixing around makes it fun.
As long as you like it, dont matter what others say, just expressing an opinion as i always do, you know.  Cheers

I think submariner fixed with rubber bracelet is nicer. Looks more sporty and casual, and of course lighter too.
actually hard to wear back sporty watches after getting used to Apple watch. The weight is definitely noticeable.
