David James is a strange one. For a tall guy, he gets down to shots very quickly but inversely he is poor at crosses till the joke is James is afraid of Dracula James was indeed strange. Was a fairly decent keeper in the early days at Pool. And then kept losing corners and crosses for his height, that he was called butter fingers... Until he was sold as he was higher-profile as part of spice boys than an able replacement for the likes of clemence/grobbalaer... It's normally a mark of no confidence to be sold by Pool (rather than poached by rivals like Suarez, Sterling, etc.), but James incredibly managed to pick himself up and became England no. 1 for a few years later on in his career... but that could well also be because England got no talents those years... 1
Spring Moderator August 23, 2020 Author Share August 23, 2020 Looks like Man United giving up on getting Jadon Sancho from Dortmund? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8654883/Manchester-United-Jadon-Sancho-chase-summer.html The figures being quoted are really high. £108mil tfr fee n more than £300k per week wages is ridiculously high even for a club as rich as the Red Devils. Chelsea also facing somewhat similar issues with Leverkusen for the signing of Kai Havertz but for this case the only dispute is on the tfr fee. £90 quoted but Chelsea only willing to pay £72mil. His personal terms has apparently been agreed so this tfr still got chance but the Germans proving tough negotiators.

Sancho 108 million is because Dortmund pay 8 million and have to have to give 15% of the 100 million profit to Man City. City will get 15 million and used that to buy Ferran Torres for 20 million. City thanks Utd for paying 75% of their new Spanish winger fee. 2

So sancho try his luck for 300k a week. Even 200k a week akso shiok for someone aged 19 or 20yrs old nia... maybe still a 1 or 2 season wonder. Hehe.. Not that germans r hard negotiators. Man U must learn from city, target more 50-60m players then whole squad can be of great quality. Man U frequently pays over the odds transfer fees (because selling clubs always raise their prices for them) and sells their players also on the cheap 2

Neymar, Mbappe, Felix, Griezmann n Coutinho. To equate Sancho in that group esp in this Covid era is why I say Dortmund are hard negotiators. And they refuse to budge. Most selling clubs will put a high price but come down when negotiations start n don’t forget there is no other club in for Sancho as well and the same for Havertz which normally means the buying club has the upper hand. Anyway, we shall see what the eventual price is or if these 2 even move at all.

To be fair to these EPL clubs, they do foot out more but there’s a limit to extra premium. At least the EPL clubs are not like the 2 Spanish giants who try to instigate players to leave n so they can get them on the cheap. Real cheapo and underhand behaviour unbecoming of a top football club👎

I always think that Messi is too much in his comfort zone at Barca n so he will not move no matter what. He is very unlike CR7 who loves a new challenge n thrives on breaking records n winning silverware with different teams/Leagues. I still hv some doubts he will leave but I admit he may prove me wrong. I suppose only City n PSG ie the oil rich clubs can afford him. It will interesting if he can come to EPL n i look forward to this happening n if he plays to the same level as in Liga, he will definitely go on to seal the title of Greatest Footballer of all time!

We're of course into Aug now, so it seems that deadline has lapsed. But the clause was meant to be for a regular season, which will end in May typically, even for UCL final. And since covid has delayed the season, Messi's lawyers will argue that the 'before June' date should also be pushed back accordingly. If he gets his way, it will be free transfer wor... Spring Moderator August 26, 2020 Author Share August 26, 2020 Just like ourselves, football clubs also need to watch their bottom line esp in this Covid climate. So not surprising, clubs hv tightened their belts which is prudent. That said, the famous investor Warren Buffett says, be careful when others are greedy and be greedy when others are fearful so clubs like Chelsea took this opportunity to bid for players like Werner, Havertz, Silva etc as in normal situation, the Blues might not be able to purchase them as the hawks like the 2 big Spanish giants, PSG, Bayern etc would hv already snapped them up esp Havertz. In other words, Chelsea became greedy when others were fearful. They could do this partly cos the 2 window transfer ban worked in their favour. Accumulated the sales proceeds from players sold n now having the $ ammo to splurge without much competition from other clubs for finite resources ie good players. The table below even if u deduct 90mil for Havertz will mean Chelsea break even but they still getting Ben Chilwell and possibly a goalie but a few of their players will be sold as well so despite the huge $ outlay, the Blues have more or less balanced the books.
