hart move to spurs mean he given up fighting for england number 1. as a reserve keeper u wont get pick by national team.

I think Hart has given up on playing for England long ago. He was reserve at Burnley as well.

The current 3 England goalies Pickford, Pope and Henderson will take some moving though Pickford has loss form last season but the latter 2 had a good season. Pope narrowly lost out the Golden Glove to Ederson by 1 less clean sheet whilst Henderson is knocking at De Gea's door.

He is a more than decent keeper. Think his fall was due to Pep coming to City and expecting him to play out with his feet which he is not good at and this affected his confidence in his goalkeeping as well. He nvr recovered from this and yes his fall was rapid unfortunately.

Under JM, I don't think he is expected to play out so much so it could be a good move for him but he does hv Lloris in front of him though.

Reminds me of Petr Cech who is an excellent keeper but towards the end of his career, he struggled to play the ball out with his feet as well but for him, his strong goalkeeping skills still outweighed this weakness though he was caught out few times with poor feet play. Personally, I feel for these keepers as their primary role is shot stopping after all but game has evolved.

Reminds me of Paul Robinson. Like Hart he was excellent for a season or 2. Machiam die die 1st choice for country and machiam the next David Seaman. I say Seaman coz have to go back to Peter Shilton for a great english keeper. hehe.

Somehow Robinson and Hart wakes up one fine day and turned dodgy. Never the same keeper again.

Old days English goalkeepers are the best in the World from the legendary Gordon Banks whose save from Pele at the Mexico WC immortalized him to Peter Shilton, Ray Clemence, Chris Woods, David Seaman etc. Unfortunately, the English have gone backwards and there haven't been really excellent keepers for awhile now.

The next hope is Pope or Henderson but they need to join a top 6 side and play regular UCL to see what they are made of. Pickford has gone backwards and is inconsistent till there is talk that Ancelotti wants to replace him.

Ya forgot Nigel Martyn also good[thumbsup] Yes Pope n Henderson need to prove themselves.

David James is a strange one. For a tall guy, he gets down to shots very quickly but inversely he is poor at crosses till the joke is James is afraid of Dracula[:)]

Pickford is waaaaay overrated !! this type of standard also can become England No.1 😓

Nick Pope (and Heaton) + Henderson may perform well in their respective teams, but to break into the Top 6 teams is different matter altogether. It's telling that the top 3 keepers in England National team are from kuching kurap teams

I see your point but to be fair, the fact that none of the top 6 teams hv an English goalie I think is not the players fault.

The impatience to succeed meant that the Brazilian no. 1 and 2 goalie, Spanish no. 1 and 2 goalie, French no.1 and the German no. 3 goalie (Leno is in and out of the squad) were bought by the top 6 for instant fix. Seldom do the top 6 sides allow a young goalie to be blooded eg Man United refuse to give Henderson a chance which I can partly understand as goalie is such an important position.

By the way, Tom Heaton was also doing reasonably well but he has since lost his place at Villa, replaced by Reina. Not easy to perform well in goal at relegation threatened teams.

As for Pickford, he had a decent WC 2018 but his subsequent form plummeted. He might be replaced by Pope or Henderson in the next England games. But Southgate is those type of loyal to players kind of Mgr, so Pickford might still be retained though on current form, he shld not.

None of keepers from top 6 is England.

Pool - Brazil No1

Mac C - Brazil sparing keeper

Man U - Spain No 1.5

Chelsea - Spain X.5

Foxes - Denmark no 1

Spurs - France No 1

or put another way, will not get top 6 if using English keeper

Jose don't play out from the back.

He tells keepers kick it out.

:D

the evolution of Goalkeepers has meant that the kick it out method is creating "limited" GKs in England. I remember reading somewhere that this style is very much alive and rampant in the lower rungs of football in England and in junior games as well. Well, it will take time (probably lots needed) to really change the way football is being played in England.

Similarly in Brazil, defenders are an after thought... hahaha
