The allowance bestowed upon the Leader of the Opposition and, indeed, our ministers, is entrusted to them through our collective vote. Whether you believe that the amount they earn from their appointments is justified, the implication is that this sum is an investment in their judgment and ability to work towards the betterment of every citizen in the country they now serve. Having foisted this responsibility upon individuals, however, it is left to their discretion to spend the money as they see fit, led by their personal biases and motivations. Mr Singh's decision to declare his intentions in the manner that he did suggests to me two narratives. Either he is openly buying the votes of his constituents while stoking political polarisation, or his shortsighted and arguably naive generosity blinds him to the base tribalism that he incites and encourages in his party's supporters. Perhaps he seeks to lead by example through charity. But more than inspiring kindness and tolerance, I see greater division among my fellow Singaporeans. As Leader of the Opposition, using the words of one of his own party members, MP Jamus Lim, Mr Singh ought to be "mindful of the risks of involuntary exclusion/inclusion, which can result in perceptions of unfair or biased treatment". Low Yanqing ===================== No wonder like this. This female poodle (hint: read into that what you will lol) needs to question the motives of LHL suddenly declaring Pritam the leader of the oppo and also publicising the increase in his allowance first *before* she goes around casting aspersions on a good man performing a noble gesture. ↡ Advertisement

I think pap is the grandmaster of divisive politics in the past donkey years, with the lift upgrading program, estate development approval by losing candidate, and PA operations to further pap's own interest amongst several others. Anyway I agree with you they are simply casting aspersions on good intent. This is also political and divisive in my view.

Legally, President will appoint Leader of WP as PM. He/She will have the responsibility to form the next government.

CarNutz 4th Gear May 13, 2021 Share May 13, 2021 Maybe I share a little of my personal perspective as a so called member of the gig economy since 2016 until now. Not as a grab delivery but in the education sector. Paid by the hour too but with cpf contributions. No bonus,no medical leave and no career progression. Is it by choice? Yes and no. I see my peers all holding top jobs with bright future I feel envious occasionally. But looking on the bright side I survived well until now. A supportive family helps a lot. Having said that nearing 50 soon so perhaps prospects or prestige doesn't mean as much. But to a younger person in his 20s to 30s,yes having career progression is important. But being a optimistic person helps and looking forward to a hopefully successful retirement in few years when child is financially independent. Last but not least,my personal journey has made me a more adaptable and resilient person. Does not take things for granted now. Just my two cents worth from a typical hdb heartlander at the lower level of society. Hope it can encourage pple out there:) Cheers.

Business is not bad now with many seeking private tuition to bolster all the half-baked online learning Plus you don't have to suffer idiosyncrasies of bosses and assorted school "top management" simply parroting policy after policy change flowing downwards from ministry. Private tuition has been very nimble to adapt to online lesson delivery and can survive covid circuit breaker with no hiccups. Unlike the ton of admin in schools that has to be done to accompany the online lesson!
CarNutz 4th Gear May 14, 2021 Share May 14, 2021 @Sosaria Yes a portion of my day is tied up in tuition classes. They are fixed schedule lessons and so they give me a stability throughout the year. But it is still not considered as a 'career' cos there is no prestige and certainly no progression. Here in Singapore pple do judge u based on income and job titles. But heck, maybe it doesn't matter anymore. I made it up without the material trappings of success with peace of mind, lesser stress and the joy of teaching students who appreciate the work that you do. I am on track to officially retire from full time work by 55. Beyond that, you can bet your last dollar I will still be involved in education and education related businesses:) Stay safe Cheers
Didu Turbocharged June 1, 2024 Share June 1, 2024 This trial timed nicely before the coming erection. 😁 Opposition leader Pritam Singh set to go on trial in October Singh, 47, faces two charges of lying in Parliament to a Committee of Privileges over Raeesah Khan's case. According to court records, the first segment of the trial is set to begin from Oct 14 to Oct 18. Another three periods were set for the trial if necessary, spanning Oct 21 to Oct 24, Nov 5 to Nov 8 and Nov 11 to Nov 13. Singh hired lawyers Mr Andre Darius Jumabhoy and Mr Aristotle Emmanuel Eng Zhen Yang from a boutique law firm in April. He had made his intention to claim trial clear from the first day he was charged in court - pleading not guilty on Mar 19. The two charges Singh faces allege that he wilfully made a false answer on Dec 10, 2021 and Dec 15, 2021 in the public hearing room at Parliament House. This was during an inquiry before the Committee of Privileges, centering on the case of Ms Khan, who had lied over a sexual assault case and accused the police of mishandling the case. Singh allegedly testified falsely that he had wanted Ms Khan to clarify what she said in Parliament about accompanying a rape victim to a police station, and that he spoke to Ms Khan as he wanted to convey to her that she had to clarify what she said over the same issue. If convicted of lying under the Parliament (Privileges, Immunities and Powers) Act, he could be jailed for up to three years, fined up to S$7,000, or both per charge. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/opposition-leader-pritam-singh-set-trial-october-raeesah-khan-4376086
