exactly... this chap is groomed and given opportunity by AC Milan to what he is today

if he chooses to join Juventus, of all teams, then i got nothing to say

it's the same as those Dortmund players who joined bitter rival Bayern Munich when they became good players

Donnarumma is from milan youth system, trip to be the next buffon. and the next milan kp for at least 10 years. his pay for his age already extremely high,

but now after a fantastic season when he help milan to number 2 and into ucl at last, he is no longer with milan, really a shame , even the player himself is shock i think.

psg sign him foc, i seriously dun know if his current contract with psg is bigger or the same as what he and his agent demand from milan,

its almost 100% sure he will be loan back to another seria A club. the prefer club is juv, but they dun show much interest, roma stand a good chance. if he go roma he wont have ucl for the next season.

Disappointing indeed, but this is the unfortunate reality of the football world, or maybe the world at large...

Players have a career of maybe 20 years max, or slightly longer for goalkeepers, so some players might want to maximise their years to make (read: demand) as much as possible, and then retire comfortably to see them through their (plus maybe extended family) whole life.

Obviously we like to see the likes of Maldini, Giggs, Totti, Carra, etc. who were one-club men throughout their career, showing their undivided loyalty, but I also cannot think of many more of such breed.

Others will just go where the $$ is, some even jumping over to fierce rivals while still at their prime, and in the process incurring fans' wrath, like Cashley Cole, Sol Campbell, Sterling, plus all those like the Dortmund players you mentioned, or Mahrez, Kante, Maguire, VVD, etc. whose clubs also could not resist big offers coming from bigger clubs with bigger ambitions (to attract the players) and importantly, bigger warchests.

Mahrez and Kante are classic examples: Leicester was tipped for demotion at the start of the season, and nobody had heard of the two, at least certainly not me. But over the course of the season, their stellar performance which was accorded by the miracle experienced by Leicester, means they received very attractive offers for their service. And so they went. If Leicester had not given them the platform, would they have received the type of offers which saw them making much more money and win more trophies? They still might, but i think it's fair to say definitely Leicester facilitated/accelerated/catalysed it.

Like i said, while we all love loyal players who remember/appreciate what the clubs that groomed them or gave them the opportunity starting off, i'm sure we'll see more players thinking otherwise.

wah... means write off Spurs already? Not very ambitious?

20-21 season EPL had many big-name managers. Now that Ancelloti and Mourinho have left, wonder whether 21-22 will have more or lesser...

Frankly, best for both Spurs and Conte that this appt doesn't pan out. They are obviously at different ends of the spectrum. Spurs are so tight fisted n Conte is a ticking time bomb Mgr who is so demanding. I nvr heard of a Chelsea Mgr under Roman A that feels the Board not supporting him enough....... Conte was the only one. Even JM nvr had an issue on this.

Don’t get me wrong, Conte is an excellent coach with a CV boasting silverware. But he comes in a package....an explosive one!

Owners are very important. The 2 EPL clubs with the 2 most generous owners reached the UCL Final.....enough said.

I think it’s perfectly fine to leave a club for “greener pastures” but do it respectfully. Examples of players who have left with fans giving their blessings are Hazard, Suarez. The opposite where they literally forced their way out are Sterling, Courtois.

Donnarumma has every right to leave but he shld know the wages Milan offering him were generous by their standards n comparable to even what the biggest clubs could offer but he is “brainwashed” by his greedy agent that it was inadequate n also bearing in mind the Covid situation affecting clubs finances. Trusting your agent is fair but players need to draw a line when their agents go overboard. Mino Raiola always goes overboard and that’s why Alex Ferguson refuses to deal with him which led to the departure of Pogba.

pogba never really live him to his reputation and big contract since his move, and once again , he is asking for an even higher contract to stay at man u .

you hit the nail on the head.

suffice to say, so players will leave with a sour aftertaste...

actually, i never really understood or accepted the roles of agents... Imagine a soccer agent getting - what's the market rate? - a cut of neymar's world record deal. Even if at 5%, the 200 mil fee would work out to 10 mil... and if any agent has a few big clients, they will definitely try to engineer deals such that it will enrich themselves too, plus will try to influence the clients into moving more frequently, so that they get more comm....

Am sure they make more $$ than many smaller clubs even...

for agents, more transactions means more comm... this is true everywhere, in football, stock, property, car, etc etc

True and that’s why its up to the players themselves to draw a line on what their agents are up to and their demands. U can’t blindly follow and agent and say “I’ll do what he says” which is what Donnarumma was quoted as saying. Some players have in the past sacked their agents if the agents went overboard. Having said that, we will nvr know the whole situation between Mino Raiola n his stable of players. Can’t be they so silly as to swear loyalty to him if not beneficial to themselves. So there could be more to it then meets the eye.

Villa reported to have agreed to a fee of 33mil potentially rising to 40mil with bonus add ons for Championship player of the year Emiliano Buendia of Norwich City. Seems a lot of money for a player unproven in EPL but who had an excellent record last season.

Villa made a similar signing last season by buying Ollie Watkins who not only proved a good buy but also got into the England squad so I wont be questioning their decision anytime soon but it seems they outbidded Arsenal for Buendia which is a surprise. Villa could hv gone for Barkley or Loftus-Cheek of Chelsea who are both England Internationals albeit not current ones but obviously saw a better player in Buendia. I look forward to seeing this player in action in the coming season ahead.

As for Loftus-Cheek and esp Barkley, they are at the crossroads of their careers. I don’t think Chelsea want them and if Villa also don’t want them then I don’t know where else they can go to.

Pool reached the 2019 UCL Final a year after VVD n Allison came onboard. This was significant investment by the owners but the funds were from sales proceeds of Phillipe Coutinho’s move to Barca. So the point here is with investment, they reached the holy grail of being UCL winners but if they continue with just targeting value money buys then I’m afraid they will less likely be able to find success though possible.

As for Spurs, it’s true they didn’t invest much so credit to them for reaching UCL Final. They are the exception rather than the norm. But they hv since fallen off the pace whereas Pool went from strength to strength by winning EPL after UCL.

I’m not saying that with investment, success will definitely come but let’s be honest, it has been proven investment in better players gives u a better chance of success. This will only come with owners who are generous otherwise City wouldn’t hv won 3 of the last 4 EPL with Pool winning the other after buying VVD n Allison. Chelsea won in 2017 as well.

Quite true too. In modern soccer, the winners are inevitably the likes of PSG, RM, Barca, BM, City, Chelsea, Utd, etc., all of whom have been paying a lot of players to strengthen their teams so that they can compete.

The only team i can remember who won with a lot of academy graduates was with Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, etc. With Cantona being the catalyst for the team to start winning, they really saved the club lots of money, and also developed the winning mentality.

gone were the days when big clubs would patiently groom a team of youth players into superstars and core players of the club

Man Utd - Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, Neville, Butt

Liverpool - Fowler, Owen, Gerrard, Carragher

Barcelona - Messi, Pique, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta

Dortmund - Reus, Schmelzer, Gotze
