Orh… i misunderstood.

AC Milan is my 2nd team after Liverpool. Gullit, Rikkard and VAN BASTEN!

Maldini n Nesta were probably the godliest CB pairing in the history of World football.

so AC Milan to go thru

As expected, a much changed side, captained by Alisson and featuring the likes of Neco Williams, Nat Philips, Konate, Tsimikas, Morton, Minamino, Ox and Origi took to the field.

Surprising, or rather unsurprisingly, both Salah and Mane started (seems that these 2 always play, their energy levels are phenomenal)

Both of them were substituted at around the hour mark, by Keita and Gomez (good to see these 2 back)

We fell a goal behind, but rallied and in the end prevailed with a 1 - 2 result. With goals from Salah (that’s 20 goals already) and Origi (legend)

With this win, we made it 6 out 6, 18 points and set another record, becoming the 1st English side in history to win all 6 games in a Champions League group stage.

Now till around Feb, CL takes a break. Thus while we await the draw to see who we face in the knockout phase, it’s back to the grind of EPL.

Next up, against Villa.

YNWA.

When Pool was drawn into this group, I was worried that Pool could only qualify for Europa Cup (3rd position in the Group B table). [sweatdrop]

Instead, surprise of all surprises, Pool lead in this group with full points. :wut:

Pool 11 points clear of 2nd place, AM (7 points). :slow:

Good run out for the lads this morning at San Siro. Of the starters, only 3 started the last match against Wolves, namely GK Alison, Strikers Salah and Mane. The starting defensive line was Neco Williams, Nat Philips, Konate and Tsimikas. Midfield is Ox, Tylor Morton and Minamino with Origi getting this first start in a long long time.

With such an unfamiliar line up, it is not surprising that we are not at our flowing best. Despite this, good run out for the youngsters and Ox put in a very good game. While trailing by a goal, our lads got even when Salah scored and then Origi, as usual, puts in a masterclass finish in the second half to seal the win.

Good that Minamino and Origi are having some game time now with Jan 22 African Cup looming.

Pool is the 1st english team ever to finish 18/18 pts in the UCL group stage.  They not only won the group but won every single group game, in a group which was supposedly the group of death. the group is no pushovers given Atletico is the reiging champion in Spain while Milan and Porto are both leading their respective leagues at this time.  Pool will be one of the teams nobody wants to draw in the knockout rounds.

Even with a much changed side, it continued to play in the same way, high intensity and high press.  Milan was pegged back for most part of the game. The CB pairing of Konate and Phillips kept Ibrahimovic as quiet as he ever was. Both of the CBs matched the physical challenges of this 40 year old veteran who made his name bulling CBs.

origi scored his customary winner.  Salah has 7 goals in the group stage alone.  The only blemish was the poor goal conceded which Taki may be largely at fault as he didnt defend the bouncing ball at the near post well.

At first look, yes. But if you see the replay, there was a Milan player in front of him who also had his leg out too. Both missed the ball. In reality such situations its touch and go ...... not easy at all

the point of contention is whether he is marking the near post or the opposition on the near post. I think given the zonal marking system employed, he is probably to protect the near post but got very distracted by the opposition player nearby. In the end, he fail to mark the space at the near post and Alisson had to scramble to push the ball out from going in straight from the corner...

Nat Philips did a Cruyff turn sending Ibra and Kessie flying the wrong way.

The Bolton Baresi looks like a Paulo Maldini.

:D

Just Origi, Nat Phillips is probably good enough to walk into any EPL mid table side and command a starting place. The question is whether they are contend to stick around at Pool to play the squad player role. Origi is more comfortable than Phillips for sure.  If Klopp can keep Phillips in the squad this Jan, i think it is worthwhile given the amount of games to be played and cos Gomez / Matip's injury records are quite poor.

A mid table team like Newcastle should get Philips.

They should also get Origi but Pool not selling cos of AFCON.

Both Phillips and Konate held their ground. Well. Done.

The all time haolian ibra could jolly well retire after kept quiet by our young Konate. Yes, he was so frustrated not being able to outplay Konate, he shove him to the ground. Tsk Tsk. Tsk....

The only setback this morning was the fact that Atletico Madrid qualified as runners up for Group B. I don't mind Porto or AC Milan qualifying but not Atletico Madrid.

I personally find both Porto and AC Milan more footballing as compared to Atletico Madrid's crying babies who is constantly putting on an act to distract and influence referees.

AM more drama, every match also try to use the dark art to frustrate and get people send off. This morning also lots of drama between them and Porto.
