But truth be told, a lot of their young ladies embrace the 996 culture. Come here work in spa massage is mainly 12 hour workday, and worse than 996 - they typically get only 2 days off every month! Still they want to come

And the zombie / sheep mentality driven by social media is just amazing. Single-minded with no entertaining of alternative thoughts. Good example is the recent floods and the sports apparel company Erke went to make a big donation. Overnight, due to social media campaign lauding their act, their stores were emptied by throngs of shoppers urged on to buy their products to show "gratitude".

In a way, the ccp is trying to make use of this social media phenomenon and mindless behaviour to target its enemies, but also worry about the power of social media being turned against them. That's why they are trying to control these tech companies.

In China the govt tries to control the tech/social media, in US the tech/social media tries to control the govt. 

Different but same same. Sheep everywhere.

Nice meh? Looks like the Street fighter, Mortal kombat arcade game of our "uncle" generation! Control a character to fight various enemies with special key combinations. Ending with a "boss" villain which must be defeated to move on further beyond each stage. Same formula repeated ad infinitum. Just better graphics and the social element (interaction online with fellow players)

Enlighten me. I haven't been in touch with PC (or now all played on dedicated game consoles?) games almost 20 years already.

I think the gap is widening. 

Corporate lobby is a serious issue in US and what is good for business is deemed to be good for America. 

In China, a few wise elites are deciding what is good for the country and its people.  

Interesting how things will span out.

It is more than lobbying. Big techs decide what you read and see. Billions of sheep will have their minds shaped by big tech.

Yes, FB, google, YouTube, etc. They don't care about polarizing society and reinforcing prejudices, they only care about profit.  

The Social Dilemma on Netflix is a pretty good documentary on what is going on.

Last time is at arcade, then it goes into PC/ game consoles, now your phone is with you 24/7.  The impact is much greater. It is hard to wean someone off this opium. A friend's kid suffered a lost decade. Sighs.

People behind the wall only get to read and watch “approved” stuff but the firewall is not great lah, it is the Internet age, even for the Chinese.
