they can be conservative but there is no need to design an embarrassingly ugly looking MPV.

Ugly yes but utilitarian, a yes too. 

I have a friend who drives a 4 wheel fridge stepwagon, the interior space put my suv to shame.

Likely move to Dynamic Force 2L

and retain 1.8L Hybrid

In all fairness, there's little Toyota and the other Japanese manufacturers can do about the design, since they need to fulfil the 1,695mm width requirements in order to enjoy the tax incentive. So they can only play with length and height to maximise the interior space.

Engine wise, I fully agree that it should be Turbo, Hybrid or even Electric to move the large van at a more comfortable pace. I concur with @Hamburger comment that the interior space put many full size MPV and 7 seater SUV to shame. Beside that, Toyota should also work on improving the built quality. All except Alphard and Vellfire still feel pretty van-like once you open/close the doors or sliding the seat forward/backward...

But in terms of handling and drivability your SUV will put the Stepwagon (or Noah/Voxy/Esquire, Vellfire/Alphard etc) to shame.

No diff. I test drove their 2.5L "dynamic force' hybrid......ermm, no comment.

You drive turbo car 1 le. Of course no feel.

For Alphard, I drove 3.5L. It is the best engine for Alphard.

No lah. What I mean is no matter how good they design the engine oso no use. The weakest link is the CVT. Lots of noise without lots of progress and juz makes the car feel unrefined

That means you have to try ES250.

Driving CVT needs patience which I don’t have.

For those criticising Toyota on design and engine, do remember this is for JDM market and they have significant restrictions on size and width to meet certain car class.

Also, this sells like hotcakes (similarly Alphard/Vellfire are best-sellers there) in Japan so whatever crap design they doing, it is definitely working for their pockets.

Too bad no rav4 prime here. It’s also a cvt gearbox. With 5.5sec, can tia majority of the cars on the road and still save more fuel. 
can also go off road. As a true sport utility I think it beats almost all competitors.
