they are programmed to wait and see

if the same fault repeats again i.e. for x numbers of time in x numbers of hour

IMHO.
Not sure if it has been discussed before - changing of EO,   hot or cold ?  
Thinking of getting those 12V oil extractor.  Cold, takes longer.  🤣

Unless you are DIY in your own carpark or porch, otherwise you can't avoid it being warm as you need to drive to workshop.

Oil extractor is the type that stick into your oil stick tube and suck out the existing EO? I would really prefer the traditional bottom oil pan release method, if you think about it - you will anyway need to jack up to access and change the oil filter.

No different.  But if can most prefer to do it cold.

To avoid being burn. Not only the oil is hot. The engine compartment, if u need to reach inside can burn the arm easily.

last time I use manual vacuum oil extractor sucking from dipstick tube

for 5W40, overnight cold oil will be much slower to suck out 

usually I will wait for 1 hour after I switch off the engine, warm enough to flow easily but not hot enough to burn my hand

Yes agreed. Warm oil. With cold oil, the bloody 12v will buzz so damn long to extract. 
my solution is to use fumoto valve. Easy and more simple. Don’t need to bother with keeping the extractor. Can let the cold hot warm oil slowly drip while you have a kopi.

Yes, DIY and it is those drain from the dipstick hole.  
I just need to change EO at 5k,  skipping the filter because it is too unsafe unless I get proper equipment i.e. floor jack and jack stands.
Floor jack I still have to think how to do maintenance service. 🤣

I was looked at some Youtube,  cold oil will bzzzzzzzz for 30 mins it seems.  🤣
Maybe after warranty will do the fumoto valve.  
My hybrid,  the coolant and oil temp is not high, usually below 90°C.   Maybe warm up a few minutes to let coolant rise to 50++ °C.  🤔

besides oil viscosity and temperature, the orifice size also affects the flow rate

if you drain via the sump drain plug hole, very little different between cold/warm/hot oil as the hole is big enough 

fumoto and the similar valve will have a smaller orifice size comparing to the drain plug hole, it will slow down the flow

also, our ambient temperature is close to 30C, some angmo suggest and insist to warm the engine before drain while they are typing the reply from a freezing room/garage 🤭

when you pour fresh engine oil from the bottle, how thick it can be?

I think this challenge only occurs if drain engine oil from the top.   
I see Youtube,  warm/hot engine oil,  5 mins only. 🤣
My experience from previous ICE,   thickness varies.  EO will thin and then thicken and then thin.  Usually I will be in the thicken zone. 
For that vehicle,  UOA  suggest to me the EO will last between 7000-8000km.  So 5000 km change will make sense. 

I use to do it usually manual pump.  Now I want to "automate" and save time. 🤣

I just spend 100+ every 8k km on an oil+filter change at a simple workshop.

They can along the way also do FOC things like rotate tyres and do undercarriage check.
