What about petrol car COE past 2030? Can still extend 10 years

Basing on how the government implements their policies in the past, whatever in palce currently should be allowed to continue, only new registrations will be impacted. But by then how much would be the petrol cost and availability of petrol kiosks will be another consideration.

My COE car will be due by 2029, my simple dream of owning a car will be to renew its COE at zero PARF loss😅

Yeah .. the LPG was one example of a good attempt to reduce the environment impact but did not take off.. let’s hope the infrastructure can do wonders for the EV

EV is a global trend. Unlike LPG.

Lets see how the COE bidding goes this week.

Up or down?

More likely to trend down slightly within 3k to 5k range for both Cats,   no significant movement.

Will be interesting for Cat B when C&C starts to launch the new W214, looks like they have not started collecting pre launch booking ?  In my own view, look wise the car has nothing to shout about, so with the 400k price range, not sure what will be the adoption rate.

I think Cat A will up 1-2k and Cat B down 1-3k

Next Jan onwards, Cat A may drop to 70kish and Cat B drop to 100kish

We shall see constantly high COE liao….kiss goodbye for those hoping to time the market…..thanks to genius cut and fill hahahaha

You mean CNG. And it did take off in a good way, until PAP implemented taxes on CNG.

haha, this is an interesting question. survival wise, i think both cars could survive till the 20th year with the way I maintain them, though Altis is nearly maintenance-free, because it has less things to spoil and therefore, to  repair, even airbags are a lot lesser😅.

But look at it this way, the PARF of Altis is so low, that means on the 20th years when i renew COE, the PARF loss(or PARF saving) benfit is insignificant, then might as well get another newer Altis to renew COE? In fact my son has an Altis to be due early 2015, if COE comes down by then, i will sell this current Altis and renew the other Altis. W212 has a higher PARF value, therefore, better PARF loss(PARF saving) benefit😄, do you think it is worth to renew the W212 for another 10 years😅. Ib fact i have no loss, in case at anytime i feel like lettin git go, I will not suffer PARF loss, just get back whatever unused COE from LTA.

In parallel, I have started looking at used W213, but my wife keeps nagging that i dont drive much, instead of letting the children use the cars for free, why should i spend money😪. That is the problem when a wife cannot see open. 😰 Fact is I do not need the car often, only go to market or go for lunch or breakfast with her, or when i have to meet my clients(as a transport, nothing to show off), otherwise  i cant possibily be purposely driving the car out for fun rides, or drive it to the office and pay for > $50 parking per day when i only have to pay  1.86cent per day for public transport using my Silver(golden) passion card.

wife telling you to spend money on HER instead of the the cars!

depends on your needs. i will opt for the altis to keep from the age of 20-30yrs. parts will still be cheaper and maintenance less. Mercedes 20-30years old will be a money pit.

i would still keep the altis with the 2019 renewal as history shows likely 2029 coe will still be cheaper. 2025 i doubt the coe will be as cheap as 2029. no doubt the 2015 altis is still younger age wise but the old 4speed altis i damn robust/.

Lol, u remind me of my dad. Bought a mazda 3 brand new and only uses it like you. clocking like 4-5K mileage per year.

I always ask my dad why did he even bother to spend money to buy a car when most of the time he's travelling with his concession card on public transport (while his car is depreciating away). Maybe you can understand why he does that. 😂

Oh ya, btw, keeping Altis beyond 20 years anytime. Merc will be much more expensive to upkeep (including road tax) when things start to fall apart. I just dumped my V177 at it's 3.8 year mark. It's a piece of mexican trash.

@Rickster besides cost of maintaining the car. If you keep a Mercedes for 20 years you look good for 20 years.

this value is intangible.

Hmm, true also, hard to deny there's a certain cool factor from driving a well maintained classic car.

old man thinking... lim peh got money just spend, why leave to the  son who questions how he spends his money? 😁

Jokes aside, the car is for longer trips, or to the market or where parking is easy. my dad take the MRT to work as well as office in CBD so parking is nuts. And i think in his mind should be the same as your dad, need to claim every damn cent from Ah gong and use his concession card as much as possible.

the car is also used to deliver the products of his baking hobby to friends and clients.

It is about having a car for convenience. But i choose to be cheapo, so i resort to COE cars. Regret to hear your horrible v177 experience,  both mine are already 15 years old, still keeping them. but i do agree that merce will need some money to mainta it,  which i am ok because of its cheap COE.
