It's a complete anomaly to drive a 20 year old Jaguar in Singapore today.

  • Unreliable, not fuel efficient, high road tax, lack of Jaguar specialists and workshops.
  • A E class/A6/5 series will always make more sense in any way, than a Jaguar.

And yet, I hope these 20 years old Jaguars get renewed and not scrapped. The road presence is just unique.

That's the thing about cars in Singapore. It is not a rational hobby 😄

Walk the talk and buy. Give you chance. A classic plate one is relatively cheap. Dime a dozen in the uk. Just import it in. Plenty to choose from.
but hopefully you don’t get complains for staining the carpark floor with oil petrol brake fluid and coolant leaks

@107fan

Jag of the past where parts are sourced from Ford's bin may be questionable.

The recent times where the ingenium engine were developed and used are much better and reliable.

Perhaps BMW should buy Jag at brand value ie. just trademarks and copyrights

it would be good to have RWD platforms to share costs with

Just wrap in a different frock, and perhaps from 7 series / X7 and up

Rolls royce ghost shared the 7 series platform, and a big XJ can be a popular distinction for successful mavericks

Don’t think there is market for tiny jags, I think ORA good cat is a better choice.

Somehow, I don’t think why small manufacturers should continue R&D new engines with tighter and tighter emmissions

Should volume or margins not reach payback, they go bankrupt.

Its unlikely good engineers and scientists will want to work for such unstable companies, unless the founders themselves are heading it.

For British brands, they are all 6feet under

Now, it’s just a downward cycle from the GetGo.

Current RR lineup use its own platform.

That's Ghost 1, Wraith and Dawn.

Wraith and Dawn EOL.

Ghost 1 became Ghost 2 now.

Current generation of RR, Phantom, Ghost, Cullinan and Spectre use RR Bespoke Chassis.

On the other hand, they are using everything from BMW part bin.

In fact, BMW N74 is surviving in RR for now.  No more V!2 in 7 series.

Even at zero dollar, no big car company going to buy Jaguar.  There is NO USP

Then you fail to understand both the brand, and the mass luxury large sedan/SUV market

Jaguar has a notorious reputation, especially in China.

Every owner needs to buy 2 Jaguars.  1 as Main while 2nd as backup.

Look at RR, Bentley, Land Rover and Jaguar.

Only 2 of them thrive.

Lastly, Land Rover has a USP with its SUV.  That should be a spin-off.

However, LR did a bad job with Defender.

Look, you don't have to reply my post if you don't read it

I suggested BMW to buy Jaguar's Trademark and copyrights.

Not some patents/factories and whatnot.

Not that i'm right, but there is synergy using an old 7/RR platform with new skin, coupled with drivetrain from BMW.

This Jag should compete in the Panamera segment, so it does not cannibalise 7 Series' sales, but if it does, S Class market share will also be taken.

Else, use a cheaper platform, to compete in the Skoda Superb/ Volvo S90 segment

BMW had Landrover in the late 90s, took its tech to build the X5, then sold to Tata.

Jaguar has no tech.

If Tata is ridden of Jaguar's debt by the sale, that would already be a godsend.

It is a win-win-win situation

Currently, 7 series already in Panny segment.

7 series even has i7 which is Taycan segment.

Jaguar ready has no USP.  Only LR has value but not for BMW.

Granedier could be a better product than LR Defender with BMW petrol/diesel IL6

What segment does Panamera compete in?

Isn't it a more sporty full size sedan basically, that also completes with S/A8/7?

It's quite a peculiar model to me. Too sporty and yet has 4 doors, and not a SUV.

The only other direct competitor I can think of is Quattroporte. Or AM Rapide.

Its all good examples you cited.

Would a Quattroporte, or Rapide buyer look at a 750i?

Panamera does have its market audience which the large mass market lux barges does not fit into.

Or otherwise, go the Superb/S90/Saab 95  segment at the lower level.

Recently, Audi A8 is trying to go more up-market so it speaks for itself where gaps lie.

Anyway, its all paper talk.

I don't think Tata is capable of bringing Jaguar to new heights after their contribution to the ingenium engine series.
