Flash charging will remain a gimmick for some time until there are sufficient mass of flash chargers around the island (and Malaysia). 

Unless you are so lucky to be near a flash charger in your routine routes.

Think fleet operators, buses, commercial vehicles, taxi uncles and PHVers would disagree with you on this. 

The ability to re-charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes means it's just as good as going to a petrol station. More time on the road to earn revenue and less time off the road makes economic sense. 

Even some private ride owners can see ultra fast charging that's just as fast as filling up at a petrol station as a worth while feature. Ultra fast charging is going to be the future of BEVs, particularly for those who do not have a landed property and home charge. 

There are around 109k taxi uncles and PHVers on the roads of Singapore as at May 2026. That's a little over 1 on 6 rides on the roads today.

He’s referring the actual implementation of flash chargers. It sounds great but there’s little indication BYD is going to implement it in SEA markets, nor do they have any incentive to do so. Car sales is all they care about.

It does seem like a gimmick for owners here in SEA for the near future.

BYD plans to roll out 1,000 flash chargers across the Asia - Pacific region according to CN EV Post article here: https://cnevpost.com/2026/07/15/byd-overhauls-overseas-brand-structure/. Overseas sales is what's holding up BYD and they need to roll out key differentiating features that's going to make them stand out from the rest of the crowd. Blade Battery 2.0 and flash charging are those key differentiating features. 

For the Asia Pacific region, BYD's basic plan is to install the 1,500kW flash chargers in the Denza show rooms first. Then expand out to other BYD show rooms second. Finally to the outside areas. This makes marketing sense as priority goes to the high end Denza models that's going to have the next generation of the Blade batteries that will take advantage of the flash charging capabilities. I.e. Denza Z9GT and D9. It will draw the early adopters who are interested and curious on what the fuss is all about and drive sales.

Give double-wishbone front and multi-link rear, all aluminium suspension got what use what the tuning has no finesse to it? 

I rode in a stock SL7 which I find is tuned too soft for my preference, and it has that strange double rebound over humps which does induce a little bit of car sickness. For a SUV which isn't exactly a lightweight, they really need to spend more development time to fine tune the ride/handling aspects of it properly. Throwing in more screens, fridges and massage seats are good selling points, but ultimately they must not forgot they are in the business of building cars.

Yes. Thats why I coilover by half year mark.

I think a good steel torsion beam also can beat the damn stock crap if do properly.

Smlj 100k engineers. Cannot hire a dozen from Ohlins or Lotus meh.

Probably the A team busy making sure Yangwang doesnt flip at 500kph and team E did the Sealion....

In Singapore, the new 2026 Sealion 7 specification sheet is out.

Changes from the older model are highlighted. Missing in the 2026 model are:

  • the leather wrapped steering wheel;
  • heated steering;
  • one less airbag;

Additions include:

  • Larger battery on the Premium and Performance to 91.4kWhr (+8.89kWhr);
  • Front and rear seat belt reminder;
  • Rear windscreen with electric heating and defrosting;
  • Rear fog light(*);
  • Sequential rear indicators(*);
  • Luggage compartment light(*);
  • Cargo barrier(*); and
  • Floor mat(*).

(*) only available on the Premium and Performance models.

Improvements on the 2026 Sealion 7 model includes increased driving range across all models:

  • Dynamic is now at 440km (+35km). Amazingly the battery pack is still the same at 71.8kWhr;
  • Premium is now at 540km (+60km); and
  • Performance is now at 502km (+42km).

Energy consumption is neutral on the Dynamic mode, improved on the Premium and worse on the Performance. For the Premium its at 19.3 kWhr per 100km (-0.6kWhr per 100km better), and higher on the Performance at 21.9kWhr per 100km (+0.5kWhr per 100km worse). 

Gone worse are turning radius for the Premium and Performance.  Both are now at 6.0m (+0.15m).

Due to the larger battery pack, weight for both the Premium and Performance has gone up. There is now a weight penalty.

Premium kerb weight has increased to 2,295kg (+70kg) more. Gross weight has also increased to 2,705kg (+70kg) from the 2025 model. Carrying capacity remains the same at 410kg.

Performance kerb weight has increased to 2,435kg (+95kg) more. Gross weight increased to 2,845kg (+95kg) from the 2025 model. Carrying capacity remains the same at 410kg.

DC charging rate of 150kW is the same as before, so no 800V architecture for Singapore...☹️ 

Price for the 2026 model have also increased on the 2026 Extended Rang Premium and Performance models. Don't think its worth the extra money.

Best value seems to be the Dynamic model.

Kinda insane the Sealion 7 does 520km with a 91kwh battery while the Model Y does 488km with a 62kwh battery. 29kwh bigger battery but only 32km more range. But that being said a bigger battery is good for blasting the aircon.

Eh, My 2025 also dont have heated steering leh (not that I give a fck).

That the bigger battery actually cause a larger turning radius is shocking. WTF. The turning radius was already quite bad. Gonna have fatty sealions blocking you while they do 7 point turn now....

Interesting 520 vs 500 boot space. That extra subwoofer is 20L....

Hopefully you got a good deal from the AD for not providing an advertised feature.

Not sure how BYD measured the rear trunk volume between the 2025 and 2026 model years. Don't think anything has changed physically in the trunk, looks to be the same.

Not sure how BYD measured the rear trunk volume between the 2025 and 2026 model years. Don't think anything has changed physically in the trunk, looks to be the same.

 

Lemme see if I can toggle heated steering. I didnt see a separate control, maybe it heats once I set a/c temp to 30+.

 

I suspect the 10 speaker Dynamic version was always 520L but they didnt put it in the 2025 brochure. The subwoofer box on the driver side of the boot looks to be about 20L.

 

I still cannot understand why the bigger battery gimps the turning radius. Got so cramped meh? The 5.85m radius is already very bad compared to mercs.

The Tesla motors are a little bit more efficient but the main thing is the 62kwh NCM weight is about half the 91kwh LFP.

The 62kwh uses LFP. The 82kwh ones then use NCM. Interestingly the 82kwh LR version is roughly the same weight as the 62kwh LFP one.

The 110kW Cat A Model Y kerb weight is 1,921 kg. While BYD's Cat A Sealion 7 kerb weight is 2,160kg. 

The Sealion 7 Cat A version is carrying around an additional 239kg of dead weight, compared to Tesla's Model Y 110kW. This weight penalty results in lower energy efficiency and shorter driving range for the Sealion 7 Cat A - even though BYD has a bigger battery of 71.8kWhr. 

Tesla's giga casting the front and rear frames has helped in reducing the weight compared to the traditional manufacturing technique of stamping and welding of sheet metal that BYD is doing. Believe BYD will eventually transition into this manufacturing technique on their newer models. Apart from saving weight, casting the front and rear frames have a number of other improvements.
