But don't practice until your car has to be sent in for service horz? Singapore cars very expensive to "practice" with! Maybe cheaper to find a driving instructor and practise with his car!! HEHE! By the way, anybody ever seen a female driving instructor before?? Any experiences to relate??

....you must have done it countless time without knowing it........when you shift down ....at the moment when you clutch out and the gear engages ..... the car actually slows down abit that is when you are on engine brake .......cos ...... the engine which sends power to your wheels via the tranny is now running on a lower gear which operates at a slower speed abeit at a higer power/torque band ......... that's why it is call engine brake ...... oso that's why you normally shift down to overtake ....inorder to access the higher power/torque band .......to ensure optimum acceleration the toe to heel method is used to blip the engine .....to keep up the engine rev while you are stepping on the brake at the same time........so that when you clutch out you lessen or eliminate the engine brake and can smoothly apply power and accelerate away ..........

When I was driving a Mondeo, I didn't bother to down-shift. I just turn.

....aiyah .....you must be driving an auto mah .......in which case the gear will automatically drop if you keep pressing on the gas to accelerate .......or you oredi at 3rd going up to 4th when overtaking .........
