Optra Station Wagon

Sawardi_kup! The 1.8 have been horned for a long time. Guess all the GM engines used on the Chevies are not so refined. The engines used on the Opels are pretty good though.

 

As I understand it, Chevrolet Thailand would be making the 1.8 Stationwagon with an auto transmission.

 

Never like the wagon configuration. Guess I am more of a sedan man.

Optra Estate is available in Thailand with Automatic Transmission but it is a 4 speed Transmission. Engine size is still 1.6L local reviews in the Papers all complain the car seems under powered with Auto transmission. They also complain the Auto is very slow to respond when accelerating to overtake other vehicles.

 

I am not sure why they don't use the 1.8L used in the astra wagon which looks just like the Optra Estate.

This is the thing about the GMDAT cars. Dimension for dimension they are exactly the same as their GME (Opel) counterparts. Actually it is only the engine block. Only the exhaust, intake and engine management are different. So it is safe to say that the performance of GMDAT all boils down to those three mentioned. Maybe can go junkyard and grab an Opel 1.6L's ECU, exhaust and intake and bolt on to a Optra and see what happens.

Yes the Tuscon is a much higher spec's car than the optra estate. Here in Thailand Hyundai sell the Santa Fe but don't have any information on the Tuscon. Also in Thailand Hyundai is limited by having service centers in major centers. From where I live the nearest Hyundai agent is 2:30hrs.

 

received word back from Chevrolet thailand they won't comment on future builds not even prepared to give away any information on this years planned releases.

Wow...Tuscon ! Nice, big and friendly !

 

How does it perform ? With a big body and a 2 litre engine, I would think that it would be underpowered not to mention the fuel consumption !

 

How about the new Chevrolet SUV coming from Korea. Heard it should be coming to our shore this year !

Any Idea what they call the new SUV looks nice in India Chevrolet are going to release the forrester (Suburu re badge).

 

Hope to see one of them in Thailand this year but They won't let any one know until the actual launch.

The one in India is coming straight from Subaru Japan and then rebadged in India.

 

So I would imagine it would be expensive as well.

 

This weekend I looked at the cars on the road and Chevrolet Thailand must be very happy as it appeared to be nearly every 4th car was a chevrolet most being the colarado pick up but still seen lots of Optra 1.6 and a few Optra 1.8 with a few but not many Zahfira.

 

Chevrolet have really tried hard over the last year to break into the Thai Market opening up dealerships in nearly every province and selling there cars at a very competitive rate.

 

So I really think as Toyota have the fortuner and Issuzu have the MU 7 Styled on there Pickup sub-frames. Ford the Everest and Escape I think they will be looking for a SUV to compete. It would be even better if they manufactured it at there Thailand Factory as it would bypass the tax's.

my uncle is driving a santa fe and we can never agree which is better. he thinks the santa fe is more "manly" as it is wider and looks meaner! i don't like the "depression" at the side door of the santa fe. it always gives me the impression that it has been bashed in.

you're right. the tucson is a little underpowered. i dread stopping at the traffic lights because the pickup is soooo slow i feel like an ah pek.

 

once it picks up speed, it just cruises along really well. it feels smoothest at about 100.

 

the FC was quite horrendous initially (about 6.5km/l) but now it has improved. at last count, the FC is 8.5km/l

 

the new chevy SUV looks cool! any info?

No lah! Someone scrap his Vectra, transplant the Vectra engine over. Better still which is really wishful thinking, Calibra Turbo engine.

 

Then convert and upsize the brakes, booster and all that from a SAAB 9-3.

 

Beast of a wagon already.

Oic. Thx 4 sharing wif us abt Tucson. I believ eif u step more on the gas, the pick up wun b tat slow as u described.

Sometime back My relative was bragging to me how powerful his Tuscon is, can do wheelspin when pck up blah blah..

 

Sorry no offence to u. I'm nt mocking @ tis car but juz amused @ the way he described to me. He tinks I dunno anything abt cars

ya, i suppose my tuc can pick up quicker but i'm always trying to improve the FC so try not to rev too much. but wheelspin???
