Hi Guys,

Maybe a list below will help us rate various brand/model tyres in terms of the respective performance. Please help name the most suitable tyres in the following categories:-

Best overall grip (never mind about noise, this is for hardcore drivers):-

- Bridgestone Potenza S03 Pole Position

- Michelin Pilot Sport

-

Best wet grip (never mind about noise, this is for hardcore drivers):-

- Michelin Pilot Sport

-

-

Most silent (dun mind so-so handling, the quieter, the better):-

-

-

-

Best compromise between grip and noise:-

-

-

-

Don't mind I add another category:

Best value for money yet good compromise between grip and noise:

- Kumho Esta Supra 712

-

-

Cheers n thanks

I'm using the A500.

This tyre has adequate grip in dry. But drive sanely in wet weather, otherwise u'll risk aquaplaning. The tyre performs rather well in dry weather, but exercise caution in wet weather

I'm using the Falken Azenis also. Very good grip....even on wet roads. But very noisy leh....especially in carparks or cement floors (coz the roads very smooth)

i'm oso on the a500. really lik the quietness and comfort.

my average speed is 100km/h. so tis tyre is defintely suits me.

oso heard abt the average wet drip. thus i tried 2 keep a safe distance whenever it rains.

at the end of the day, it really depends on individual needs and driving style.

but if u really need 2 balance between performance and comfort, i would recommend yokoyama avs100. i mayb using tis tyre when my a500 life ends

yap... completely agree..

The A500 came with my new car.... in less than 2 weeks drive, aquaplaning numerous times and skidded 3 times.... [dizzy]

Threw it out and change to Dunlop LM701.

A500 do have reasonable dry grip.... but the wet grip is terrible.. BTW those skidding occurs when I drive over puddle of water or cornering at raining days.... speed 80~100km/hr.

hmmm.......currently, i'm a A500 user............ever experience this skidding once I drive past a puddle of water...........be very wary of this.....on joke...........me planning to change but???? still undecide abt which to go for???

hope you guys dun mind another fundamental question: when we go for good wet grip tyres (safety in wet conditions), do we always have to sacrifice/compromise in dry grips / tyre noise / durability / prices / life span etc?????

cheers

Afraid so. Wet tyres usually got bigger longkang in the thread pattern. More longkang usually more noise too. Juz look at the noise as safety insurance. What tyres do the asstrek come in anyway??

the Ass comes with Yoko ES100 or ES500 215/55 or 50 - 17....... hope this matches the car's performance, what do you think???

cheers

Ditched my 1-week old Potenza GIII coz the ride was awful (think the 215 was too wide for the S40). I'm riding on 205/45/17 Yoko ES100 now too. Find the ride comfort pretty good and the noise level quite acceptable. Grip seems slightly better in the wet than dry tho. Tracking n cornering not as sharp as the GIII but respectable enuf for the occasional lunge into corners. Overall, quite satisfied wif it. [;)]

U mentioned ES500. Errr....guess u mean the Yoko DB500? Stay away from that wet road hazard!! [shakehead]

" ........ U mentioned ES500. Errr....guess u mean the Yoko DB500? Stay away from that wet road hazard!! ..... "

stock Asstrek Turbo R comes with 215/55-16 ES100, i negotiated for 17-inch rims and therefore the rubber size i believe should be 225/50-17 or something similar. when i went to check with C&C's tyre/rim supplier (also happened to be distributor of Yokohama tyres) YHI, they told me that max size for ES100 is 215/55-17, and for 225/50-17 the choice is "ES500".....(maybe should read DB500)...... if i wanna avoid the DB500 series, then i would have to stay with 215/55-17, eg narrower by 225-215=10mm........... i guess i should avoid 'DB500' at the expense of narrower rubber ie 215 vs 225!!! [rolleyes][rolleyes]

Pay a bit more and get upgrade to AVS Sport (equal to Bridgestone S03)-a great performance tyre It is the highest range of the AVS Sport Series.

The ES100 is the lower series. (As in Pontenza GIII)
