Saaber Neutral Newbie January 7, 2003 Share January 7, 2003 14" to 16", the ride will definitely be a lot firmer due to shorter sidewall of the tyres.... ST115 will be definitely be more quiet than 712 but if noise is not an issue, 712 is a very good buy. (good grip and very progressive at limit....)... ↡ Advertisement
Cosx Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 Hi Eddie, Thanks! I would probably stick back to ST115 if the price diff is not too much for the 205/55 R16... Cheers
Gdiking Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 I very surprised, no one mentioned the Yoko A539. I heard its a very good tire and read some good reviews on it. Anyone tried it?? I am thinking of pairing it with a set of Superleggeras.
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 got a problem with noise and ride comfort:- drove wifey home tonite and she noticed that the Assthreat is "harder" and more "bumpy" over not so smooth road surfaces ..... ....... man, today the car is still running on Yoko db500 leh, and she said like tat..... actually before she said this i was all planning to change the tyres to at least ES100 or even better..... but now really thinking twice... coz these tyres will surely be more noisy and bumpy..... how???.... looks like to save my ears from daily nagging (we go to work together every morning, in the Ass...), i have to stay with the db500 and risk wet driving and mediocre grips even in dry conditions..... until say 18 months later, when car not so 'new' and wifey's attendtion shifts to other things in life.........then change to better performance tyres...... what do you guys think...??.... life is full of compromises.... cheers To satisfy your wife's concern, you'll need to go to 15" rims! Dun worry lah dro, she'll get use to it soon enough. Just tell her 'It's like that wan.....'
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 If noise is a concern, you'll definitely want to avoid 712 or other brands of performance tyres, like SO3, AVS Sports, Pilot Sports, Eagle F1.......
Super7 Turbocharged January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 "...... Just tell her 'It's like that wan....." or, play non-stop her favourite songs.... or put in in-car karaoke to distract her..... there seems to be more than one way to get out of this........ thanks for your advice...... Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 Another solution is to get a suitably sized tyre tube, inflate it to 75% and let her sit on it! That will certainly act as a good damper!
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 Thread pattern looks cool but haven't had the luxury to try the A539 yet! My impression is that it's more of a touring tyre.
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 Just stick to your 17"!
Super7 Turbocharged January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 idea bro !! ...... if she was say two sizes smaller, i can put her in child seat........
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 In my own experience, the AspecDBs I shod on before, actually felt less comfortable (more hard ride) than my current Kumho 712s?? That's certainly food for thought! You used the same pressure for both tyres?
GDIzen Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 although 240 japanese horses pulling a 1.5 ton car is not that spectacular.... but the turbo rush is very addictive..... only trouble is my daily route does not really have stretches of clear traffic long enuff to really stretch the Ass legs...... it's like hard accelerate to 100 or 120 kmh in say 8-9 sec, then quickly must decelerate after this..... you guys have same experience?? A trip up North is definitely recommended for s t r e tc h i n g those AirTrek legs!
GDIzen Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 If noise is a concern, you'll definitely want to avoid 712 or other brands of performance tyres, like SO3, AVS Sports, Pilot Sports, Eagle F1....... I'm on AVS right now but the milder version TW-1 (W-rated) but I found that the comproimise between comfort and noise + performance ok!
Soya Supersonic January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 ST115 r slightly noisy n hard tho the grip is definitely yat-lau. If ride comfort n low noise with a decent amount of grip (esp wet grip) is what u r looking for, try the Yoko ES100. Didn't think much of it b4 but am running on these right now and would say it's quite a well balanced package btw performance, comfort & $$.
Gdiking Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 I am looking for comfort, quietness and of course grip in the wet when it matters (had a few close shaves). Which tire do you reckon will best meet my needs? 195/R15 1.Falken ST 115 2.Yoko A539 3.Yoko ES100 4.Yoko AVS DB 5.Yoko Aspec DB I intend to pair them with a set of 15" Superleggeras. Soya Supersonic January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 Maybe the tyres r still scrubbing in. Did u go for the 225/50/17? What pressure u running on?
Madarmour Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 idea bro !! ...... if she was say two sizes smaller, i can put her in child seat........ Child seat not recommended as they are hard and will transmit all shoks to her bum! You will be back to square one!
Wymun Neutral Newbie January 8, 2003 Share January 8, 2003 (edited) Yup, same profile and pressure (or at most, vary by 1psi). The difference was surprisingly notable... However, I'm now contemplating switching my Kumho712s for something better. Kumhos seem very prone to engage my ABS on MS car-park tarmac (upon acceleration) after rain. It happened to me several times before. But thankfully, on normal roads, it has no such problems... I'm considering the Toyo T1-S. The Nissan enthusiasts (who've TCed their Sentras) seem to swear by this tyre - amazingly quiet, with exceptional grip. But apparently offers less steering feedback during corners vs other UHPs...Apparently, there's this chap who actually spun his car 360deg without even screeching the tyres!!!?? Anyone have past experiences with Toyos care to comment? What's the price range like for a set of 195/50/15 variants?? Availability in Singapore?? Comparison against SO-3s?
