BTW, I haven't tried it yet. Comments based on friend's testimony. He was using the AVS Sports 17". You'll have to see where your priority lies when choosing a set of tyres. Whatever good tyre we use, once the cornering limit is breached, it will slide, over or understeer. Some ppl like to power slide out a corner. I'm sure you've seen a lot of these kind of tricks at the WRC...................doesn't they use lousy tyres. What I was trying to say was, with the 712, I can trash the tyre, of course at a safe place like the tracks, without worrying about the costs of tyre change. For me, I'll change by 1.5 years or as soon as there's significant wear, whichever comes first. Rubber hardens with time so should not keep for too long. Look for the threadwear index. Maybe i'm ol'skool but a bit apprehensive when road tyres exhibit these characteristics (esp in the wet!). Been hearing some negative comments on it's wet performance lately. I find that the lateral grip might be lacking ..... say compared to my previous ST115. It stick pretty well in the dry but I lost confidence in the wet. However, it provides pretty good grip against hydroplaning (when in straight line). But have to admit, for this kind of $$, it's really value for money. It has a softer sidewall, which translate to better ride for lower profile tyres....a plus. Juz wonder how long can it last..... Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I certainly didn't mention that slip sliding is a characteristic of the 712. Even if you're using slicks you can drift if the limit's breached. The wet handling of the 712 is probably not as good as Michelin Pilot Sports or Goodyear Eagle F1. I also believe that the wet traction of top-of-the-range performance tyres might actually be lower than their lower range touring tyres due to thread design. So far I haven't skidded on wet road yet, but then, it could just be I drive more cautiously in the wet. The traction rating for the 712 is AA. It may be interesting to note that traction rating does not indicate wet cornering ability. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Bear in mind that the 712 will start to squeal early but they don't lose traction. Pretty progressive and don't give way suddenly. Didn't corner hard enough on wet road to comment on wet traction but so far so good. Actually I feel it's aquaplaning resistance could be better. The threadwear of the 712 is between 280 and 360 depending on the load rating.
