Cheekg98 1st Gear September 11, 2005 Share September 11, 2005 1.6 models cost almost the same as Lancer and sunny. Rios should belong to lower league than the Japanese car. ↡ Advertisement
Firespitter Neutral Newbie September 12, 2005 Share September 12, 2005 Quite true..anw i just got my kia rio today and i am quite satisfied with the car except for the rims. So i changed into 15" sport rims with Good Year tires at S$580/- after trade in price of $160/- for the 14" stock..Wondering whether the price was too ex?? Was that the Advanti Racing rims by any chance?

Firespitter Neutral Newbie September 12, 2005 Share September 12, 2005 hmmm... since they're priced almost the same, does this means kia thinks very highly of their VVT or very lowly of their existing engine??? The higher initial pricing is meant for early adopters. In the coming months, prices will definitely drop to more reasonable levels. It is very unlikely that C&C will persist with the current prices for the Rio. Why? Because the Toyota Vios is also in the low $50K range, but has better performance and fuel consumption (courtesy of the superior VVTi engine), and is also equipped with ABS and twin aurbags that more consumers are now demanding. I had shortlisted a few cars namely Kelisa, Picanto, Vios, Panda (Fiat) but Rio was never on my list till I saw it. The interior won me over initially but I had to put all 4 cars through a driving test to get an actual feel of the car. Here are the list of the awards:- Most Go-cart feel like - Kelisa (Including a lack of decent interior, just like a go cart!) Best mannered salesman - Toyota (Dinesh) Lowest booking fee - Kelisa ($450) Most horrible drive - Panda (Gear changes were jerky, whether in manual or auto) Most sophisticated (Plenty of tech gadgets) - Panda Biggest hype but little delivery - Vios (After reading the VIOS Owner's website, I was 99% sure I was gonna get one till I test drove it) Decent bargain car - Picanto Best overall - Rio (Actually it was a very clear cut victory above all these I test drove) The only downside about the Rio to me was that there was no immediate delivery like the Fiat and the wait now is made worse as I am trying to avoid SFY4XXX, 5XXX, 6XXX, 7XXX... I'm too kia see. Initally I had also thought about the early adopters' higher prices theory but with the COE lingering at $16K+, it's a good time as I believe it would not stay there for long. I'd rather take the risk and get it now rather than wait for the price to drop $1K-$2K but COE goes up by double the amount. Actually the SE I bought my car from is very accomodating and gave me some "special deal" so actually I may have gotten a marvellous deal after all. The only thing now is wait for another 1.5 to 2 months more... SIGH!
Osiris 1st Gear September 12, 2005 Share September 12, 2005 I was also around suntec 2-4pm. Saw the new rio too. Not a bad package. My gripe. It comes with manual side mirror adjuster (can see a plastic cover in place where the electronics control should be), glove compartment catch very flimsy. Pop the bonnet, very little space for a VS. Plastic interior quality - I think the hyundai accent is slightly better. The blue one with bodykit and upsized rims looks very good.
Firespitter Neutral Newbie September 12, 2005 Share September 12, 2005 Can't really share yet... renegotiating with SE for "added freebies" due to mistakes they made on my booking.

Firespitter Neutral Newbie September 12, 2005 Share September 12, 2005 I can get the car this week if I wanted but I am superstitous about having my registration number read SFY4XXX.... Eeeeeks! I booked for a red sedan. Sadly the interior is only limited to beige for sedans although I love the HB black/beige interior much better!

Ahlaw1978 Neutral Newbie September 12, 2005 Share September 12, 2005 Hi all, I just collected my KIA RIO today. Heard from SE that the auto version still cannot be approved on the road. Have to wait for the LTA to approve. But the way, mine is a manual. Overall, a very decent car. Rgds.
Porche 5th Gear September 12, 2005 Share September 12, 2005 didn't heard from the SE abt that! congrats....the SE there quite Bo chap one! only one complain...the wing mirror manual...think CVT more responsive...neber test drive the manual!
Leonknapp Clutched September 12, 2005 Share September 12, 2005 Hi, I spoke to an SE there at suntec and coording to him the rio only comes in the beige/black interiors. He said that they are not bringing in the black/beige interior. So who is right? Im kinda confused. Honestly I felt that the sales people there did not really know the specs of the car they were promoting. But its a very nice car indeed!
Leng Neutral Newbie September 12, 2005 Share September 12, 2005 anyway the actual Kia Rio launch in Singapore is much different from the web site Kia-Rio.com..eg..no airbags, no sunroof, no fog lights..however, it's still a nice car though if you looking for 1.4l car... Hicksau Neutral Newbie September 12, 2005 Share September 12, 2005 yeah... but the manual mirror really bring it down.. plus the car seems to have almost nuthing but a engine okie.. so i ask the S.E abt fitting ABS later on .. he say that such after-market will not be available till a year & half later... kinda wack , izzit?
Leng Neutral Newbie September 12, 2005 Share September 12, 2005 yea..but manual side mirror still okay for me cos i oni need to adjust it once and let it be..haha..i realised one more thing..there was no arm rest for the driver's seat if you look at it carefully..haha... ↡ Advertisement
