Hey that's a good idea. Can have a "IGNORE" button that can be activated by the mod so that only that user can see his own posts, the rest invisible to everyone else [:p]

I think the BEST way to treat hit-&-run case is by ignoring them [lipsrsealed]

making the forum too exclusive might run the risk of stagnating it, with always the same few ppl and no fresh blood to contribute new ideas etc etc.

a balance of having a few exclusive folders for mods and old birds and the rest being available to public is the best.

i see it in 2 ways.

1. limit the access of "guests" to the forum. = possible public outrage.

or

2. educate "our own ppl" to be discreet in their postings. = as far as i can see, getting no where. lipsrsealed.gif

A change of rules mean people will be unhappy, you cannot please everyone. We need to work out what's the objective of this thread, be focused and implement. We may lose certain people but at least we'll be able to keep a core of genuine people.

MCF is well-known for its friendliness and "free-spirit", to the point of being corrupted with various irresponsible posts. I have been in the forum for a year, and I can see what Gad and the rest are talking about... The culture of the forum have changed. Many regulars are kept away by the changes.

I admit when I was a newbie myself, I post without thinking. Especially so when I did not join you guys for meetups.. But when I did, I realised that I have to be more responsible in what I post. And I came to love this forum and I certainly want to protect it.

Not really. Now the forum is accessible to anyone who has an email a/c, leading to a lot of people doing "hit and run" posts, which might result in problems created for the forum and its users. It also allows for a core of people who are genuine in sharing information to post. It's easy for someone to hide behind a com screen to post whatever they want, but when the scenario changes to that of the person being known in person to the rest of the forum, he/she will be less inclined to post dubious stuff. nod.gif
bro.. if i make juz one appearance and then no more.. do i qualify to be in the "IN" group ? how much can u judge of a person with one meetup ?

ok, u can put put a minimum meetups say, 10 meetups. at the end of the day, the situation will be the same as the current classifieds as Gad has brought up.

i would rather look the original post starter, look at the subject he/she is posting and determine whether he/she is playing with fire or not.

Good leh. But then this forum is not a specialise forum like others where the make is around the same. I believe some car owners here are registered memebers of the specific make forum and have more information on R&D and mods instead of here...

Unless...

Not everything can be ignored you know.. For example, now if somebody came in and post something discriminating against some bigf*** company. Letters and warnings will then be sent to the administrators of the forum as everyone including just registered newbies are automatically a part of the forum. And then what can the administrators do? Lock and delete the thread? Warn the poster? Ban him? It's a vicious cycle you know.. When we have a member's corner, everybody can see that those "hit and run" people are not part of the forum anymore.. The forum would not have to be responsible for that person's postings or remarks.

Hehe.. This is the "fine-print" that the forum and its administrators need to work out...

I agree... the content in what one post is a better gauge of the person than say showing up just once in the weekly meetup. e.g. people will have to wait until they attain 1st Gear (or 2nd Gear or whatever gear) before they can apply. By then, the mods will be able to tell if this person has been bullsh1iting in all his/her 50/100 posts.

Neutral Newbie

I am also shy thats why havent attend meetup yet [blush]

Imposing registration is neceassary to particiapte in the forum but i can fill up false data as well still i can paticipate, time will never be a issue for guys who want to wreck havoc

No doubt we are repsonsible for what we post but The line must be drawn by the host/mod what can be posted, if necessary the post should be deleted if its against the forums guideline, before its full blown. This can be taxing on mods but necessary as well.

Some posts which are deemd not suitable for the "general public" can be transfer, discussed in the members onie lounge

But by doing this it restricts other guys who nver turn up for meetup, genuiely may want to participate in the discussions

So the thing is what are the stuff which we cannot discuss at the general folder

i think u r wrong in tt. a post will still be a post in the forum, be it from newbie or old-bird/guest.

i would think its more sensible to know wats the purpose of the thread, where is it coming from/going to.

if the rest of the forumers do not participate / reject the thread, then it will have "no business" but to shut down by itself.

the truth is ppl knows where are they coming from and yet choose to reply on it.

I guess it's a problem faced by all forums, unless legislation made to hold users accountable for their own postings in public forums. [:/]
