i support the registered memebers only but to pay a certain premium for certain folder access i doubt many would opt for it.

i myself would not. if i have to pay, then heck, i'll bow out of sight.

don't worry mate.. i'm not saying that you are looking into this.

but just that i'm trying to say is

if ppl creates a forum to gather cars lovers to air their views on makes or general discussion is ok, but now and then, some ppl hiding behind the screens post certain 'unentertainable' posts, then general users have to pay for it's usage it's not really fair to make the rest pay. but of course, trouble makers ought to be fished out and skinned alive.

Let's take the classified as an example.

Previously, MCF do not allow selling of stuff. Then, they are flexible enough to open up Classified Folder.

And what happened? There are people whom just want to clock that 25posts in order to post in the Classified. And it isn't just 1 or 2 cases..

How should we further improve?

I think we have to ask what is MCF's basic stand towards Classified. Coz if it encourages members to trade, then common sense dictates the wider the pool of sellers and buyers, the better it is. U may have a 1-post only seller, but the buyer could be a senior guy, so it still turns out beneficial to MCF members.

So in fact, i would prefer to have no restriction for Classified. Maybe don't even need to register, thus people who just want to sell, not to stay around, will not need to register thus wasting resources and save this culprit from making quick and likely meaningless 25 postings. Problem solved?

I would also support members only access folders, maybe for posting and not reading. And to remove dormant cases, can have a process to manually "renew" membership when that member has not been "seen" for sometime.

Just my 2cents here. [;)]

Hi,

Just sharing my views

Screening off unwanted posts has always been a prob with other forums as well.

I'm active in TCS forums & we find that registered members are indeed more responsible in their postings as compared to normal forumers (non-registered). The obvious advantage of having registered members is accountability (i.e. admin knows who they are) so easier to take disciplinary action if required. For non-registered forumers, all u know is their email address & name (both can easily be fake).

ps. I attended one (& only once [:p]) MCF meetup back in 2003 & got my decal from S2P2 (he still ard? [hur])

Sponsorship may be concern for the owner of the forum...unless the forum decides to raise funds by other means...sales of forum merchandise, etc.

I wouldn't mind contributing but some others might not.

Gad, can I suggest that with our gear systems, maybe when we create a new post we have a choice to limit the ppl access ? The higher the gear, the more he can access.

Or another way is that, any gear status can opt to limit access to the level he wanted like 3 gear & above ??

Just throwing in some ideas

Peace Bro [angel]

Actually, I kind of like the current arrangement. Register member can do posting, and visitor can only view.

My Car Forum is basically about car stuff, nothing to hide from the public which may be surfing this site for information & knowledge on car stuff. Why is there a need to restrict viewing to only registered members? frown.gif

Sharing of information and knowledge on car stuff even with visiters (can see but cannot post) is what makes MCF such a friendly and informative website. If restricting the folders to visitors, it may seems 'selfish' and 'discriminating', loosing the current friendly atmosphere.smallcry.gif

Sorry if I've offend anyone with my comment...... I'd vote No.sweatdrop.gif
