A sizeable majority of us who trawl the MCF portal regularly would have had lived a good three or more decades. And, just like ladies may look back on their childhood love fondly, petrol-heads often reserve a special place in their heart for the cars that sparked off their car madness when they were young punks. The list of cars that I lusted after when I was a young adult teenager is long. Way too long to reproduce within the confines of a blog post. They ranged from Japanese sedans like the GC WRX to the outright wacky supercars like the Lamborghini Diablo. But the point I am trying to emphasize here is not my age or the fickle minded heart of my youthful years. Rather, it is that I still feel a little bit of excitement every time I spot one of these cars. They hold a special place in my heart and I biasedly favour them over the current generation of sports cars. I am sure that I am not alone. There have to be others who are even more hardcore. They are the ones keeping these retro classics on the road and running. These people I salute for having the courage to take a leap of faith with an old car just for a dream. They know that cars, like buildings and monuments and memorabilia, form a piece of our personal history. Perhaps it is now timely for the powers that be to realize the human dimension to cars and to re-look our policy on old cars. We could start by retaining the PARF refund for COE extended vehicles.
