  1. Hi, Let me start a new thread. Searched but no such thread yet. Test drove this weekend, it is good price for specification offered. Although engine is 1.5, I find the drive is quite spirited, should be due to EDC that is able to bring the car up to speed with its fast shift, faster than the 1.6 bluehdi C4 can do with its EAT6. The car has all the high specification an entry luxury car offers. I am open to critical opinion such as dci failure, french car with poor quality ..etc and hope owner to offers their experience such as fuel consumption able to meet the paper specification, drive and any electronic failure. Thank you.
  2. The 2014 model year of the European spec Skoda Rapid is set to go on sale on 5th August 2013 with a series of updates. Most importantly, the compact Czech sedan will receive a new engine option in the form of a 1.6-litre TDI engine which is good for a modest 90bhp. The diesel engine will be mated to either to a seven-speed dual clutch automatic of a five-speed manual gearbox. An optional Green tec package adds green technologies such as low-rolling resistance tyres, brake energy regeneration and start/stop system. The 1.6-litre TDI Green Tec is said to return a fuel consumption figure of 3.9L/100km and emits CO2 at 104g/km. With the new engine, the Rapid is now available with two diesel engines and four petrol units. The refreshed Skoda Rapid will be offered with optional Xenon headlights. On the inside, the 2014 Rapid gets a new three-spoke steering wheel with four trim options, namely Graphite-Metallic, Silver Brushed, Piano White and Piano Black. Speaking of the Rapid, Skoda Singapore
  3. [extract] Diesel engines have undergone a technical revolution over the last twenty years. In the past diesel powered vehicles have been considered by many to be noisy, dirty (with smelly black exhaust) and underpowered. Today
  4. It looks like General Motors is not the only car manufacturer that is affected by massive recall in the US recently. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that BMW is recalling some 2,642 units of the X5 and X6 SUVs fitted with diesel engines due to an engine bay fire risk. The affected vehicles are manufactured between 20 April 2012 and 29 May 2012. According to the official statement by BMW, due to a machining error of the steering gear surface, power steering fluid may leak. Leaking power steering fluid can spray onto hot exhaust parts, increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire. The issue was uncovered during testing at the BMW plant in Spartanburg and the luxury car maker is unaware of any incidents caused by the defect. The driver is still able to maintain steering control although the power steering assist is faulty. However, a higher degree of effort is required. A change in steering effort could increase the likelihood of an accident under certain emergency conditions. The recall is expected to begin in July, and BMW dealers will inspect and replace the steering gear on affected vehicles as necessary. The recall by GM (on the Cruze model) and BMW reminds me of a conversation that I had with a local Hyundai salesman recently. He mentioned that if a model is sold in the US, one can be assured that it is quite safe as the US government is very serious about vehicular safety. I think there is some truth in it.

  6. [extract] Many here would have already known about the revised special tax for Euro V compliant diesel cars that was announced by the government earlier this year. Previously, the annual rate per cubic centimetre is at S$1.25. Though since starting from 01 January 2012, the annual rate has been reduced to S$0.40 per cubic centimetre. This revision is made due to the recognition in Euro V
