  1. Just saw this on YouTube. Looks pretty cool.
  2. Subcompact cars including the Fiat 500 and Honda Fit performed the worst of any vehicle segment so far in a tough new test that assesses what happens when the front corner of a vehicle hits another car, a utility pole or tree. Only one of 11 minicars tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety won an overall "acceptable" rating in the so-called small overlap front crash test, the Chevrolet Spark made by General Motors Co, IIHS said on Wednesday. The Honda Fit and Fiat 500, made by No. 3 United States (US) automaker Chrysler Group LLC, were the worst performers. The results prompted Consumer Reports magazine to drop its recommendation of the Fit on Wednesday. Consumer Reports said, however, that it expected the upcoming, newly redesigned 2015 Fit to pass the test "based on the newness of its design and Honda's recent accomplishments with this stringent test". http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/money/story/most-minicars-fail-new-crash-test-fiat-500-honda-fit-worst-20140123
  3. While unhappy SMRT bus drivers displayed their frustration by going on strike, a Serbian Fiat worker has his own way of showing unhappiness - by vandalising 31 unassembled Fiat 500L body shells. The worker scratched profanities and offensive messages aimed at the management of the plant on the cars' bodies . The trade unions commented that the workers had been forced to work long hours and had been denied of cigarette breaks. "It is believed that a single man damaged the cars because the message's handwriting is the same. This is probably due to tough conditions under which the workers operate, the younger ones can bear it but it is very difficult for the older ones. They work in three shifts, under great pressure from management, and the average monthly wage is 34,000 dinars," said Zoran Mihajlovic, President of Fiat Automobili Srbija's trade union. The damaged body shells were re-painted while an investigation has been launched to identify the worker involved.
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpi2IAec9Ho The above displayed Fiat 500 Abarth 'Seduction' commercial was named 'Best TV Commercial' at this year's D Show held on 28th Nov in Detroit. The D Show is an annual event hosted by the Adcraft Club of Detroit dedicated to judging and awarding creativity in Detroit. Entries are submitted by advertising agencies and reviewed by judges from within the advertising industry. "It is great to see a video that was created on a shoestring budget and not intended to be shown on television, receive prestigious accolades like the D Show 'Best TV Commercial' honor," says Olivier Francois, Head of Fiat Brand Worldwide and Chrysler Group LLC and Fiat Group Automobiles Chief Marketing Officer. Seduction was created in partnership with the Dallas-based 'The Richards Group' and stars supermodel Catrinel Menghia. In the US, the mini hatchback is offered with a 1.4-litre Multi-Air turbocharged four-cylinder that is rated at 160bhp and 230Nm of torque.
  5. [extract] Fiat has unveiled the 2013 500 Turbo at the Concorso Italiano in Monterey, California. The new variant aims for the sweet spot between the relatively hardcore Abarth and the standard 500. The Fiat 500 turbo offers a sport-tuned suspension, high-performance brakes and a revised steering system for improved handling. For a more aggressive appearance, the new 2013 Fiat 500 Turbo features a pronounced front fascia that has been pushed 2.7 inches forward of the car
  6. [extract] It is rumoured that Fiat intends to showcase their 500XL seven-seater van at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in September next month. But before that could happen, images of the said vehicle have leaked into the internet. The van

  10. Although the market is being increasingly flooded by super-minis these days, the super-mini giant is still the Mini.. ironically. There hasn't been much competition until recently with the launch of the new Fiat 500 and the Audi A1. Now though, theres a new challenger creeping up its back. And its no German Eurobox, its a French Citroen! The DS3 has just been let loose not too long ago and I'm going bonkers over it because I think its such a cute little car and with such a cool yet modern yet retro design all balled up into one lump of fantastic metal. It stands out from the crowd, setting itself apart from the boring and pretentious looking Audi A1 and trumps the re-invented Mini and Fiat 500 by miles. As with the Mini, there are many customization options which we can choose from which is a great thing, though of course the idea comes from the Mini, but who cares really? Since when did car companies have independent brains? Funny thing really, the DS3 shares the same engine as the Mini and yet somehow it feels like a happier place to be. The interior as expected, can be customized to your liking and colour combinations, definitely a hit with the ladies and maybe some guys.. and the Citroen can accommodate up to 5 people instead of 4 in the Mini. As for the powerplant, the 1.6l which produces a decent 118hp which is enough to get around Singapore roads comfortably. With its low emissions, this car is green and tree friendly and its fuel consumption is meager as well. The price is where it starts to hurt a little bit, at 94k, it will make you dig deeper into your pockets but at least you know you'll be owning something thats quite awesome..
  11. The Fiat 500 has, in my opinion, gone full circle. Very recently Fiat officially revealed the new 500 and 500c (cabriolet) with the 'Twin Air' 900cc turbocharged 2 cylinder lawnmower engine. The little Fiat is set to hit showrooms in Europe in September of this year and was basically made to work within the European CO2 emissions tax system that is used over there for cars. The new 2 cylinder engine has the same amount of cylinders like the 'original' 500 Nuova launched in 1957. Those days the 500 had a 479cc 2 cylinder engine pumping out an incredible 14bhp. Nowadays, the 500 has to make do with a slightly better figure of 84bhp. This 500 TwinAir uses a 2 cylinder turbocharged engine with is 23% shorter and 10% lighter than a 4cylinder engine that has similar performance figures. It is also very economical as it would only consume 4.0-4.1ltrs/100km while emitting only 92g/km of carbon when matched with the Dualogic robotized gearbox and 95g/km of carbon for the manual version. This figure is about 30% less CO2 emissions that a 4cylinder engine of similar performance. It makes 84bhp and has a maximum of 145Nm of torque when used in 'Normal' mode and 100Nm in 'ECO' mode. This two modes have different engine maping as well as different steering feel. The class leading emissions is due to the small displacement (900cc), good low end torque (imagine 450cc per cylinder instead of, say 300cc for a 3 cylinder engine
  12. Fiat has chosen a unusual way to celebrate the production of the 500,000th 500 mini just 31 months after its launch. The Italian automaker is going to create a special edition version of the 500, whose surface is entirely covered by 1,500 photos displaying the faces of Fiat 500 customers, celebrities and fans. Starting from 3 May 2010, those interested to have their image printed on the Fiat 500 can book a place on the car by logging on to www.fiat500.com and use the special application showing a plan view of the Fiat 500. They can then book one of the free spaces online by sending a photograph. Fiat said that seventy per cent of the places are reserved for Fiat 500 owners. The special "Fiat 500 Thousandth" is expected to be ready three weeks after the booking stage is concluded and will be featured by the Italian carmaker in forthcoming events and international motor shows.
  13. So we now have heard that Audi is about to enter the premium small car market with the Audi A1. The current market leaders of this market segment are the BMW Mini, the Fiat 500 and to some extent the Alfa Mito. These cars allow car manufacturers to charge a whole lot more for the same small package and of course, Audi being the premium marque in the VW-Audi stable is their contender. But after scrutinizing the pictures it is my opinion that Audi is trying too hard with those flowing A to C pillar 'different colour from the body' scheme. It isn't a design cue or anything like that. It's just colour over sheet metal. Imagine the SMART car with its interchangeable panels. Innovative, but the main highlight about that car, or even the Mini, or even any Fiat 500 is the timeless classic design of these cars, which Audi doesn't have. One look at any of the cars mentioned and you can recognize it. The Audi A1 on the other hand looks like any small hatch with an Audi nose stuck to it and those different coloured pillars. The only plus point are those funky looking LED lights, which are really funky. To prove a point, we now have here is the Mitsubishi A1 (a Colt badly photoshopped by yours truly). Stick an Audi grill, paint the pillars, put on aftermarket LED strips (the one like the A4 but not as chic as the A1) and you have something that looks somewhat like the A1. If you consume a couple of Flaming Lamborghini's and then squint a little that is. Okay, it may look exactly like the A1 pictured above, but what I think I've stumbled upon here is a new trend. The supposedly trendy (Ah Beng) like people who like to trick up their cars will now follow the A1's flowing different coloured pillars. And that's about it. The point is, flowing different coloured pillars is just a fad, that will be followed by people till they're bored of it. And then its back to the usual normal coloured A to C pillars for all. But I dig those funky LEDs anyway. This is the actual selling point of the A1 regardless what Audi tells us. - Fiat 500 - Mini One - Alfa Mito
