Supermarket chain NTUC FairPrice said an image circulating on the Internet, of its air-flown fresh pork bearing a 'halal' sticker, is an insensitive hoax in poor taste. A mischievous hoax of a tampered packaging of NTUC FairPrice fresh pork carrying a halal certification mark has resurfaced on Facebook recently, after more than six years. NTUC FairPrice said it is both insensitive and done in poor taste. The image started circulating on the Internet in 2007. FairPrice CEO, Mr Seah Kian Peng, said it is mindful of the serious religious implications of the matter and regards this as a wilful act of mischief, and had lodged a police report then. Mr Seah assured the public that the original packaging of Pasar Fresh Pork does not carry the halal sticker from the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS). He said as with all nutritional and product information for food items, FairPrice takes great care in ensuring the information printed is accurate and certified. Mr Seah urged the public not to circulate the image any further, so as to avoid any unnecessary confusion or offence. Anyone with queries can contact the FairPrice customer hotline at 6552 2722 or email [email protected]. 5. CNA report : Youth arrested for SAF hoax SINGAPORE: A 19-year-old Chinese youth has been arrested by the police for posting an online hoax that a full-time national serviceman was shot dead during a training accident at Sembawang. He was arrested for an offence of Transmitting a False or Fabricated message under Sec 45(b) of the Telecommunications Act, Cap 323, said a Police spokesperson yesterday. The youth is assisting the police investigations. A police spokesperson said a report was lodged last Saturday and the Defence Ministry (MINDEF) said on Wednesday that it had filed the police report following an online hoax on January 27. "MINDEF takes a very serious view of hoaxes that undermine public confidence in the Singapore Armed Forces and cause undue alarm to the public," said Colonel Desmond Tan, MINDEF's director of public affairs in a statement on Wednesday. The hoax was posted on January 27 on a blog called Temasek Revealed. It also appeared on a Facebook page called Temasek Review. It is understood that both sites are not associated with socio-political website Temasek Review Emeritus. If convicted of an offence under the Telecommunications Act, he could be jailed up to three years and fined. He is too free & would like the taste of being charged & a bad record throughout his life .... What happen to his brain ....

  7. ST Forum Jul 13, 2011 Rental hoax or exceptional demand? I AM a 27-year-old professional from India working in Singapore, and have been looking to rent a three-bedroom Housing Board unit with two friends in the centre of town. In the past two weeks, I have scanned the classifieds online and in the newspapers but to no avail. Most of the advertisements on property websites are fake and many of the units listed online do not exist for rent. When I call an agent about a property, he is more interested in getting my profile than talking about the listing. When I ask for a specific listing, I am inevitably told the unit has been taken. Such units are either non-existent or were rented out on the day they were listed, which is unlikely for every unit. If they had been taken up, isn't it the responsibility of the agents to remove the listings from the website? And if the units are fake, then it is an unethical way of doing business and fishing for clients. Rishu Choudhary
  8. SINGAPORE: A 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly posting an alarming hoax message on an Internet forum. In the message posted on Thursday, the sender wrote that an F-16 jet had crashed at the Ubi/Eunos Link area and there were many casualties. A netizen reported the incident to the police at 12.20pm. After confirming that the message was a hoax, the police conducted an investigation and arrested the suspect at about 8pm at his home at Bedok Reservoir Road. A desktop computer was also seized from his house. If found guilty, the suspect can be jailed up to three years, fined or both. Central Police Division commander Tan Hung Hooi said the police take a serious view of such irresponsible Internet postings that could cause public alarm and will spare no effort to track the perpetrators and take them to task. -CNA/wk CNA

  12. OK this is about the stupid TV program called "When Cars Attack" Of all things, they got David Belzer to host the show. Basically, it is about car manufacturers putting in this funny device called the "hydrosolator". I can hardly control my laughter when I heard it. The program just sort of says that with ill-maintenance, the cars sort of had "revenge" on the owners who ill-treated it. So the cars did strange things on purpose to kill their owners (give me Christine anytime). It said that Mortimer Ford put this device into cars. The program also said all cars have it. Finally when the show ended. These are in the credits. This program contained absolutely no historical or mechanical truth. There has never been a hydrosolator. The explosions, crashes and apparent malfunctions were the result of human intervention, not manufacturer's defects. The character and the actions of Mortimer Ford in this production are entirely fictional. No such character ever existed. WTF!
