  1. Mazda has revealed its facelifted Mazda2 in Japan. Set to go on sale there in September, the hatchback will lose its Demio moniker too. On the outside, Mazda claims that the new car has a revised exterior which strips away “superfluous elements” to reveal a “sculpted form that is simple yet rich.” In simpler terms, it meant that the front has a revised grille which is flanked by slimmer headlights plus a new bumper not unlike the Mazda6. At the back, there’s a modified rear bumper with less plastic body cladding and we can also see new tail lights and chrome accents. Inside, the 2 hatch gets new front seats and updated color schemes plus additional sound deadening material for the comfort of the passengers. The Mazda Connect infotainment system has also been updated with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Elsewhere, it gains a lane-keep assist, adaptive LED headlights and an adaptive cruise control system with a stop and go function. Handling wise, the new car features G-Vectoring Control Plus and a retuned suspension that promises to improve ride comfort while certain models can now be equipped with the i-Eloop regenerative braking system.
  2. Just revealed at the Thai Auto Show. A Mazda 2 with a boot; A mini 3; likely will be made in Thailand. Set to take on the Toyota Vios. Honda City, Nissan Almera. Seems like the engine at launch is the SkyActiv-D 1.5 (aka Diesel); unsure if the 1.5 SkyActiv-G will be made available but I guess it has to be if it were to sell in greater quantities in SG. Transmission likely same as the 2 Hatch, which means it will likely be the 6 speed SkyActiv Drive transmission with Sports mode. Those in the market for a car in this segment, stay tuned.

  4. http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/review.php?AID=795&PN=3 Key Points : - Compared to the 3 hatchback, there's less space in the cabin and a 250-litre boot (including underfloor storage) of the 2. But it's adequate for four Asian adults of average height, with decent legroom made possible by the significant 80mm increase in the 2's wheelbase to 2,570mm. - It's not fast, of course, with only 115bhp to play with from its 1.5-litre engine. But the kerb weight is just over a tonne, and the SkyActiv four-cylinder is hooked up to a responsive six-speed automatic gearbox (the old model uses a mere four-speeder), complete with little paddle-shifters and a well-placed Sport switch. - Hitting 100km/h from a standstill takes 10 seconds flat, which is less impressive than how the car behaves in corners. The steering, which is light on initial turn-in, becomes firm and positive as it negotiates the bend at speed, with the vehicle steadily following through. - The positivity of the steering, along with the stability of the chassis, the 'continental' confidence of the suspension, the bite of the brakes and the predictable grip from the 185/60 R16 tyres, makes the 2 a cooperative companion on the circuit. Not bad at all for a city car destined to live its life in the city, far away from any racetrack. - The engine is energetic and willing, all the way to 6,000rpm. It's clearly heard when hard at work, but it operates smoothly and there's no untoward vibration through the bulkhead. When the 2 is just cruising along, it is as calm, controlled and well-insulated as the 3 hatchback. - Mazda's latest fun-to-drive 2 will be introduced to Singapore in the first quarter of next year.
  5. hi, any new Mazda2 owner here? Any feedback on your FC? Heard some say can do 12km/l, some say can do 14km/l... saw a PI brochure with claim of 24km/l and how's the overall experience like in terms of handling, comfort etc? My OC took a look the other day and comment that the car got no storage space.

  7. Hi guys, I'm looking ard to replace my current ride. 2 options i'm considering now, need some "expert" opinion. lol 1) Apr 2006 Toyota Vitz 1.0A 78,000km due to OPC $23,800 to convert to normal plate 2) Oct 2005 Mazda 2 1.5A 79,000km $18,800 I would like to understand, which have better FC and would have better chance to last me till 10th year. Quite interested in the Toyota Vitz, but kind of worry abt the accerlation/horse/drag power if i got full passengers on board.

  11. Just came across this article in www.triplezoom.com Please note that the features described here are probably for U.S. models. Though some may also apply to local import **************************************************************** Features of the freshened Demio: All models are of the highest level of fuel efficiency and eco-friendliness for Green Tax compliance. A broad array of improvements has resulted in significant gains in fuel efficiency when in 10-15 mode; for example, a nine percent improvement for a 1.3-liter engine automatic transmission model. All models have achieved reductions in vehicle emissions to meet the highest standards. Fuel efficiency Engine features: - By employing an EGR cooler and electric throttle, the Demio attains an increased volume of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and; - Partial energy recovery during deceleration due to an electrical discharge control system; - Reduced engine revolutions when idling through lowered resistance. Transmission features: - Improved efficiency during normal engine running through automatic-transmission tuning and load decrease when idling. - Improved balance between fuel efficiency and driving resulting from overhaul of gear ratios of the automatic transmission. Other changes: - Adopted power steering by adding an electric motor. - Reduced electric current consumption by decreasing the load on the fuel pump and by adopting light emitting diodes (LED) for the high mount stoplamp.
