The all-new 2017 Impreza debuts the Subaru Global Platform architecture that's designed to deliver significantly higher levels of driving pleasure, agility, crash protection and ride comfort and will underpin a variety of upcoming Subaru vehicles, including hybrids. As before, every Impreza is equipped as standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, a boon to driving agility and traction and a key advantage over front-wheel drive competitors. The roomier 2017 Impreza models also debut the brand's new design language and new driver-assist technology. Also new, multimedia features including standard Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ and standard Near Field Communication connectivity debut on Impreza. The new Impreza will be available in base, Premium, Sport and Limited trim lines when it arrives in Subaru dealerships in late 2016. Subaru's new design language puts the brand's signature hexagonal grille and hawk-eye headlights onto a more sculptural body, its athletic stance accentuated by prominent wheel arches and flowing lines. The dramatic new look carries into the cabin, with an outward-flow design that follows the front of the car. The 2017 Impreza rides on a 105.1-in. wheelbase, up 1.0-in. over the last generation Impreza. Both the Sedan and 5-Door are 1.6-in. longer than the outgoing models, and both are 1.5 in. wider. The larger dimensions create a roomier cabin, while a 0.4-in. lower height helps improve aerodynamics with a lower coefficient of drag. Although sleeker in appearance than the previous models, the 2017 Impreza Sedan and 5-Door preserve excellent all-around visibility. The new Subaru Global Platform, together with the Boxer engine, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and EyeSight® that represent Subaru's core technologies, constitutes the basic foundation of the next generation of Subaru vehicles. Impreza's new platform incorporates new frameworks with optimized cross sections and highly stiffened joints between structures to significantly enhance straight-line stability, agility and ride comfort while suppressing noise, vibration and harshness to a degree not seen in the compact class. Specifically, the new platform increases rigidity of the unitized body structure by over 70 percent. A lower center of gravity and revised suspension systems contribute to the biggest-ever leap in Subaru's performance evolution. The double-wishbone independent rear suspension mounts its rear stabilizer bar directly to the body, which helps reduce body roll by 50 percent compared to the outgoing model. Greater hazard-avoidance capability is another benefit of the Subaru Global Platform's inherent handling agility. In addition, the resolute straight-line stability that makes the 2017 Impreza more relaxing to drive is also an important constituent of the autonomous driving capability this platform can support in future Subaru vehicles. Taking full advantage of the new stiffer platform and more powerful engine, the Impreza 2.0i Sport, now available in the Sedan as well as 5-Door, delivers a more fun-to-drive performance feel thanks to exclusive suspension tuning, 18-inch machine-finish alloy wheels and Active Torque Vectoring. Subaru aimed for a new ride/handling balance benchmark in the compact segment. The Sport also includes a new 4-way Tire Pressure Monitoring System, which is available on other models. Exclusive exterior styling and features setting the Impreza Sport apart include standard LED daytime running lights (DRL), black-finish front grille, body-color rocker panels and turn signal side mirrors. The Impreza Sport 5-Door features gloss black rear gate trim, while the Sport Sedan has a rear trunk spoiler. Inside the Sport, unique black cloth upholstery is trimmed with red stitching, a motif that repeats for the steering wheel, gear shift, instrument panel and door trim. The instrument panel incorporates exclusive Sport gauges and a Multi-Function Display. The Sport comes well equipped, with upgrades over the Impreza Premium that include the Subaru STARLINK™ 8.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system, and a new harman/kardon® premium audio system is available. Keyless Access & Push-Button Start, aluminum pedals, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift handle and a CVT shift boot round out the Sport's enhanced standard equipment. A revised version of the FB 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine gains direct fuel injection and other enhancements to boost both performance (now 152 horsepower vs. 148 before) and drivability. In highline trims, the Lineartronic® CVT (continuously variable transmission) features a 7-speed manual mode function with steering wheel paddle shifters that allow the driver to control the transmission via seven pre-set ratios. Subaru designed the 2017 Impreza to provide even higher levels of safety than the outgoing model, which was named an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK and a TOP SAFETY PICK+ when equipped with available EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology. The new platform underpinning the 2017 Impreza improves crash energy absorption by 40 percent over present models. The EyeSight® system includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Pre-Collision Braking and Lane Departure and Sway Warning, plus a Lane Keep Assist function. Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are also available. Also new are available Steering Responsive Headlights, which can illuminate curves as the vehicle steers into them, and High Beam Assist, which automatically activates and deactivates the high beam headlamps based on driving conditions. All 2017 Impreza models include as standard equipment front seat side impact airbags, side curtain airbags and a driver's knee airbag. The 2017 Impreza adds new driver-assist technologies, including Reverse Automatic Braking and the display of steering lines for the standard rear vision camera. Reverse Automatic Braking can apply the vehicle's brakes if an obstacle is detected while reversing. A new 4-way Tire Pressure Monitoring System can detect pressure drops at individual wheels. Subaru STARLINK™ Multimedia systems offer the latest in digital music playing, Bluetooth® wireless capability, iPod® control, smartphone integration and more. The display screen also provides the display for the standard rear vision camera, and the top-level system includes navigation. The available Subaru STARLINK™ Safety and Security Connected Services give the 2017 Impreza one of the industry's most affordable telematics options. Depending on the package selected, features can include SOS Emergency Assistance, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, Maintenance Notifications, Monthly Vehicle Health Report and Diagnostic Alerts, Stolen Vehicle Recovery Service, Vehicle Security Alarm Notification, Remote Lock/Unlock, Remote Horn and Lights and Remote Vehicle Locator.

Subaru tries to turn up the heat on its latest boyracer - the WRX STI - with a twin of viral videos. http://dai.ly/x1g7b3o The first commercial is also a preview of a short film that will be launched by Subaru. Called 'The ride of her life', the 1970s-themed video is no doubt dated, and a little corny. But it should serve up some old school entertainment, where the female lead decides to leave with her dream boy (and the STI, of course). http://dai.ly/x1g79bl But it is the second short video that gets our vote - a race between the STI (in scaled down form) and some StickBombs. Thanks to some digital wizardy, the race looks very cool. Now jump to the videos and decide which does it better.

These Kei cars also have to comply with size and power regulations, in other words, their dimensions and horsepower must not exceed certain regulations.   5. I bring you readers more sad news about the automotive industry. After 54 years of doing so Subaru will stop producing their own small vehicles early next year. Those that remember Subaru's history will note that the company started making minicars at first. The tiny Subaru 360 was the first car ever built by Fuji Heavy Industries, a.k.a Subaru and now they will stop designing their own small cars but sell rebadged Toyota/Daihatsu since Toyota is now a major shareholder in Subaru. The reason is that in 2010, Subaru only managed to sell 93,000 small cars. Most of the cars are sold in Japan and according to the management, it isn't feasible to continue manuafacturing their own cars. It seems that rebadging a Daihatsu Boon/Sirion makes more sense economically. Of course it does. But they're so utterly predictable and dull vehicles. Take the Toyota Passo a.k.a Daihatsu Sirion/Boon a.k.a Perodua Myvi a.k.a Subaru Justy. They may look slightly different with different eylashes, skirts or jewellery, but they are basically the same shape. Everyone knows they're actually buying the same car and why they bought the certain model depended on whether the sales person managed to convince them or that they just didn't care what car they bought. Compare that with the Subaru R2 (which is already replaced by the Daihatsu Tanto) and the R1 above. Now these are really cute little cars that I'd like to drive. But I can't anymore since Subaru started rebadging the Sirion as a Justy. In fact there are quite a few R1s running around Singapore and I seriously hope that some survive the vehicle scrapping within the next few years so that people can still see how good looking these cars really are in years to come. And this little fact also made me realize that this is the real reason why the latest Subaru Impreza (pictured below) looks kind of unimpressive or slightly dull to some people. It has 'TOYOTA' written all over it. Can anyone in here name me an interesting Toyota that has been launched and in production in 2010 and 2011 aside from it being a Lexus? No. I don't think so. Subaru has hit a new level of blandness (and a new low in terms of car production) and I blame it on the general dullness of Toyota. It is as simple as that.
  6. Subaru has unveiled the all-new fourth-generation Impreza at the New York Motor Show, which it claims to be more efficient than the outgoing model. Which is all well and good, but what happened to the Subaru of before? Subaru used to be known for their cutting edge design and technology. Its Legacy models were handsome and understated-looking executive cars, and the Impreza were highly impressive performers, as evidenced by their success in the World Rally Championship during the 1990s. However, ever since it withdrew from rallying a few years ago, the company seems to be going downhill. The Legacy now looks like a mess, and now we have this dull-looking new Impreza. I don't know about you, but this new model doesn't come across as very exciting to me. I don't think car enthusiasts will go ga-ga over the new Impreza. What's happened to Subaru?
  7. The Impreza STI with the large scoop will Nevah, Evah die! At least according to our regional modders that is. It has become a major trend with your neighbours up north to make almost every make or model of car out there into an Impreza scoop utilizing monster. Some with head shaking sheer lunacy, like the triple scooped new Proton Saga shown here, or some tastefully done ones. Actually, there are no tastefully done ones I've seen. Except for some earlier GC Imprezas, SF Foresters and other Scoobies that also utilise this scoop. Yes I am limiting the scope of use for Scoobies only, but I'm quite the traditionalist. I do not usually agree with a Mercedes 190e running a Nissan RB26 engine (when you can stuff an AMG Mercedes V8 in it) or a Proton Satria using a B20 Honda VTEC engine (when you could stuff a...actually Proton does not have anything really decent to put inside), or a Perodua Kancil with a NISMO or a RALLIART (may the company rest in piece) sticker plastered on the sides of the car. Anyway, the picture above clearly states that people with Proton Sagas love Subarus. This is the second one I've posted here albeit the first was a 3 tiered scoop version. One should be proud of what one bought, and not be something else, even if it is a lowly Saga. The industrious bloke above bought an RM38K Saga, spent around RM4K for the bodykit and paint, another RM2K for rims and tires, another RM2-3K for ICE and some other mods. You got to hand it to him an 'A' for effort if you can't hand him anything else. Maybe a blindfold would be good. Then there is this car. This is very apt as Toyota owns a part of Subaru nowadays and this could be a prelude of the new AE86 that Toyota and Subaru aims to produce together. It shows a glimpse of what they could produce. Or not produce. Or I suppose part ownership of Subaru would make it a valid use of the Impreza scoop on a Toyota even if the car is already around 20 years old.
  8. It seems the Subaru Impreza WRX or the WRX STI Top Mount Intercooler scoop from the version 8 (applied model C to E in Subaru talk) is making headways in every vehicle out there. Check out the Toyota pickup above and you'd see the famous scoop looking its best. Modders are willing to put this scoop on any car they see fit. In Malaysia, I've seen the scoop on a Proton Wira, Proton Waja, the new Proton Saga, a couple of Perodua Kancils, a Perodua Myvi, Hyundai Accents and aside from the two pictures that I have posted here, on a Mitsubishi Airtrek Turbo. While it may serve a purpose for directing air into the Airtrek's intercooler better than the smallish NACA type duct on the stock bonnet, I think its blasphemy. Doing a Mitsubishi/Subaru hybrid somehow doesn't gel in my mind. However, the more as I think about Subaru and the scoop, I've also noticed the Subaru rear wing on all sorts of cars, the most surprising is a WRX fishtail rear spoiler on an RX8. It does look pretty decent anyway as the shape does look like it fits the Mazda. What am I saying? A Mazda RX8 does not need to be confused as some other car. It already is a great car. I really wonder what goes on inside the minds of these people. Go buy a Mazdaspeed wing or something Mazda for God's sake! Therefore, I now have to say that Subaru makes the best aftermarket wings, spoilers and scoops in the world (or at least in this region) due to every Ali, John, Lim, Muthu or the DVD seller down the street choosing something that originated from a Subaru for their ride. Maybe Subaru should really copyright their stuff and then claim royalty. Subaru could become one of the largest performance bodyparts supplier or royalty cash machine in the region. Before I end this article, here's another picture with the scoop on the wrong car; and I have to add that the car in the picture, also has Subaru STI seats. I rest my case.
