According to them, this is the biggest buyout ever in the local car-sharing scene. Established in 1997 by NTUC Income, Car Club was one of Singapore's first car-sharing operators. In 2016, it was acquired by a Japanese company, Mitsui & Co. Ltd, which later entered a joint venture with another Japanese company, Willers. Terms and details of the acquisition were not revealed. Adrian Lee, Co-Founder of Tribecar, said: Lewis Chen, General Manager of Car Club, had this to say: Moving on, Tribecar said that members of Tribecar and Car Club will get to enjoy services and features that are currently offered exclusively on platforms. They did not mention specifics but said that it would include various subscription plans and corporate programmes. But perhaps more importantly, members will get access to a larger fleet of vehicles and at more locations. Combined, Tribecar and Car Club will have a fleet of over 1,400 vehicles. Tribecar said members will get to enjoy a greater range of premium luxury car options and a wider range of vehicle types such as motorcycles, vans, and lorries, that can be booked via hour bookings or even through monthly subscriptions and leasing plans.

SINGAPORE: A 17-year-old boy learned how to drive on YouTube and illegally used his father's name to rent cars on a car-sharing service. The teenager, who is now 19, pleaded guilty on Monday (Jan 17) to a charge each of cheating by personation and underage driving. Another two charges will be taken into consideration for sentencing. The court heard that the teenager applied for a Tribecar account in his father's name around Sep 24, 2020. He submitted his father's particulars and uploaded photos of his NRIC and driving licence. The application was successful and the teen gained access to a Tribecar account in the name of his father, a 56-year-old man. Between Sep 24, 2020 and Oct 7, 2020, the teenager rented cars using his father's account on eight occasions and paid for the rentals himself. He usually drove the cars in the early mornings - between 12am and 8am. On the morning of Oct 7, 2020, he was ferrying two passengers in his car when he was stopped at a police road block along the Central Expressway and asked for his licence. The two passengers did not know that he was only 17 and did not have a valid licence. The legal age to apply for a driving licence in Singapore is 18. The teen was arrested on suspicion of cheating offences and crimes under the Road Traffic Act. He admitted to driving the rented vehicles on all eight occasions, despite being underage. What went down On 10th May 2021 at 12:04pm, a Tribecar was seen crashing into a Mitsubishi Attrage as the it tried to make an exit out of the CTE tunnel. The shocking thing was not the fact that the car cut through 3 lanes to make the exit but rather, the driver simply continued driving off after the crash (like as though nothing big had happened just a few seconds ago). Additionally, the crash looked like something that you would see when two people hit each other with their bumper cars in an arcade. Do you see the resemblance or is it just me? However, this driver's irresponsible actions ticked off netizens as they reprimanded the Tribecar driver for driving off after causing an accident. Honestly, I believe that all of this could have been avoided if the Tribecar driver had just continued on his route and missed his exit. After all, spending a few dollars for extra rental time definitely beats spending thousands of dollars for repairs.
