Josho 1st Gear July 31, 2008 Share July 31, 2008 Any road in Singapore is dirty. But 99 bend is one of those that I can 'feel' it. But with clear conscience, I am not afraid. I almost wanted to speed up a bit but end up I force myself to slow down. Of course, I check the oncoming bend first. Most imptntly, my wife is in the car so safety first. I still wanna see my children in future. I know many bikers often went there too.. Much that I knew, quite a long flung down from the hill.. sigh... life is fragile. As for Evo guy, since you started asking about 99 Bend and one of the bro told you about PG and Sepang, it seem like you are interested to go for race. That already show your tail by heading up 99 to play. Do not even need to tell all of us you are going 30km/h because it will not be true at all. After all the talk and your mindset is still there, we had nothing to say about it but take care. Leisure drive is good but don't even try to race on public which you endanger to others life which is much innocent. Guys, I forgotten why is it name as 99Bend tho. hehe ↡ Advertisement
Sfhuang Clutched July 31, 2008 Share July 31, 2008 please don't speed there... i stay around that area and have to travel throught that place everyday. even late in the night, there are bike speeding throught and may eat into the opp direction, and if you are speeding throught it to, than BANG... game over. but there will not be an option of restart. so whatever you do, please remember that you have a family and that i'm sure they wouldn't want to see anything happen to you. Even if you are going at 30 or 40 km/h, do take note of buses and lorries, they WILL cut into you lane. My previous workplace was near there too and had to travel through that place everyday too. I get the shivers when I see how fast some cars negotiate the bends along the road particularly at night. It is okay if they want to kill themselves but they are endangering other road users as well. Genie47 1st Gear July 31, 2008 Share July 31, 2008 99 bends also goes by the old Brit name for this place, The Gap. So named because it is like a gap that passes through Kent Ridge. I can understand that why you want to go through there. The road is indeed nice to drive. Not in a breakneck speed manner. The vegetation lining the road makes it very nice. This route gives you throttle control practice. If you are driving a manual, stick to 3rd gear and go at a leisurely 30kph. 40kph is the highest for a newbie. Just have happy thoughts driving through there. Don't have race thoughts. Dangers: 1. Fallen branches. Encountered twice. Stop and pass them slowly. It gives the opposing drivers some time to react. If they are speeding, both of you just run out of luck. Make sure you flash the incoming drivers like hell after you pass. Damn stupid SG drivers don't do that. I was in front flashing like crazy and the cars behind didn't even do it. 2. Bus no. 200. It stops on bus stops on this route. Going too fast and you rear end the bus after a blind corner. Turbonetics 2nd Gear July 31, 2008 Share July 31, 2008 Cornering may be fun and have thrill at high speed. But a moment of folly can lan u in deep sh1t. Have my share of the sh1t 3 yrs ago. On my previous ride, going into a 270degree bend @ 140. Usually no problem on that road but all because of morning rain and wet leaves...almost say hello to death angles. Damage 12k Since then, I slow down already. Now just go casual speed. Last time always like to go for cheap thrills but sooner or later its either you will get bored of it or kenna upside down first. If really wanna play....go play inside HVCP. Literally no people at night and space quite big. hrrmmm...maybe should dig up the old pic of the my damage ride and let TS see first. so us a favour. pitures pictures pictures. Lmeng69 1st Gear July 31, 2008 Share July 31, 2008 I wont.. And moreover, the car is not mine also.. Max i go is 30-40kmh only.. Anyone knows how to improve my driving? Drive more? Bro, who u kidding? This kind of speed is for L-plater. Drivers at such speeds are considered hoggers, even on the left most lane. Driving instructors wld hv taught u to drive as close to the speed limit of the road, right? I wld encourage u to go 99 bends for a try cos this will give u more experience. Be it good or bad experience, it is experience pts gained. But if bad experience, pls onli experience it urself without any implicating any other innocent parties. I wld still encourage u to go 99 bends on a leisure drive experience. U will learn more on how to handle the car in such roads.
Robo 2nd Gear July 31, 2008 Share July 31, 2008 another place can be quite fun but dangerous.. there was once i think about a year ago. that morning my mum woke up late so i gave her a lift to her office in orchard rd. den i gotta proceed to my office in sembawang rd, so i decided to take upperthomson rd down. so maturally i tot i mt pleasant rd. as i was inside negotiating the bends. driving slowly as i was still early, suddenly there was a unknown force like pushing my car towards the direction of the drain.. luckily i reacted on time and manage to steer back with my left side tyres gg into the grass only... from den on i try my best to avoid that rd whenever possible.. heard that there are still alot of graves in that area...dunno true anot..
