Question: Does 1MDB need to adhere to Sharia investment principle?

If so, seem like alot of the Sharia law has been contravened....

Islamic banking (Arabicمصرفية إسلامية‎) is banking or banking activity that is consistent with the principles of sharia (Islamic law) and its practical application through the development of Islamic economics. As such, a more correct term for Islamic banking is sharia compliant finance.[1]

Sharia prohibits acceptance of specific interest or fees for loans of money (known as riba, or usury), whether the payment is fixed or floating. Investment in businesses that provide goods or services considered contrary to Islamic principles (e.g. pork or alcohol) is alsoharaam ("sinful and prohibited"). Although these prohibitions have been applied historically in varying degrees in Muslim countries/communities to prevent unIslamic practices, only in the late 20th century were a number of Islamic banks formed to apply these principles to private or semi-private commercial institutions within the Muslim community

Turbocharged

Speaking from a cynical position of distrusting human nature, I would be very very surprised if none of our current parliamentarians are using "tax havens" of one sort or another.

This is NOT a comment on the honesty or otherwise of specific people - merely an observation on the nature of such things.  There is a LOT of money, and a good number of people within the ranks of our current leadership - and as good as they proclaim themselves to be, there are ample cases of dishonesty in the past to make the assumption that there are currently less than savoury skeletons in financial closets - the surprise would be if a thorough examination revealed total and complete honesty.

Funny enough just last week I was looking at the possibility of setting up a BVI holding company.

Now you know which law firm you should use.

Malaysia's parliamentary panel zeroes in on former 1MDB CEO as among the culprits
The Star/ANNThursday, Apr 07, 2016

KUALA LUMPUR - The Parliamentary's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has found that former 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) chief executive officer Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi should be held responsible for the "weaknesses and constraints" faced by the state investment arm.

"We urge the authorities to conduct an investigation on Shahrol and those related," said the PAC in a 106-page report on 1MDB tabled on Thursday in Parliament.

The PAC probe into 1MDB began in May 2015 but was abruptly halted in July following a Cabinet reshuffle that saw first-time MP Datuk Hasan Arifin replacing former committee chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, who was appointed Deputy Home Minister.

Among those called to testify before the PAC were former 1MDB chairman Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin, current president and CEO Arul Kandasamy and Shahrol.

As a state investment arm, PAC said, 1MDB should have implemented "best practices in their management."

"After looking through the final reports by the Auditor-General Department and PAC proceedings, we have found that the management and the board of directors was weak.

"The management had repeatedly not complied with decisions and orders made by the board of directors or the management took its own decisions before going though it with the board of directors," said PAC.

There were also a few investments and huge loans secured that were done without proper valuation and its impact on the company's cash flow, said PAC.
