Perhaps, if we look closer at the voltage profile at http://www.ultimatesparks.com/page002.html , the cyclical voltage dip might due to the alternator-battery design without capacitor. In fact the problem is aggrevated with the use of more powerful ignition coil demanding higher current profile.

 

Performance can be compromised with reduced ignition energy at extreme loading conditions or when battery ages. This design actually addresses the cyclical dip at the ignition coil than the battery terminal.

 

Nope. The coil drivers on todays cars are more powerful than the ones in the 80s.

I don't believe in making a system more complicated than it already is already. Just leave it lah! Add Ulimate whatever for what? What kind of gains? Extreme driving conditions? What do you think we are doing daily? Extreme grocercy racing?

Me just bought NGK iridium IX BKR5EIX-11 for picanto . Intend to change when reach 10k.. need to change the cables ?

recently, at traffic light stops, my engine occasionally "chokes"

spark plugs are new..

any idea what could be happening?

First suspect is electrical/ignition. Recheck your plugs, coil and plug wires. Check gapping, electrical leaks on plug and coil. Can be as simple as loose connectors. Did happen to one Starlet kaki. Corner too hard and the dunno how the boot flew out of the socket!
