Bro, $28 is Super 4 which is copper....i am referring to Bosch Platinum plus 4! Made in USA not Germany....

Expensive spark plug won't give you better performance. Fresh new plugs give you great performance. Got budget or no budget still the same thing. Every 10k, have to take out, gap if necessary or replace to maintain performance.

You can get from Stamford Tyres, auto shops at Paya Ubi Industrial Park who also install them for you. It's cheaper than buying the plugs from auto spare part shops that do not provide installation as you have to pay a mechanic to replace them.

 

Someone is selling the iridium spark plugs in Yahoo Auction for S$57.00 without installation which is very cheap. To ensure that you get the right one, it's best that you look into your vehicle manual for the code and size.

 

I have recently upgraded the spark plugs and spark plugs cables in my 6 months old Mit Lancer to high performance ones. I was in one of the big auto accessory shops and enquired from them as to whether I should install iridium or platinium plugs. Their advice was that our vehicles don't use up to the maximum of iridium power. Not only are the firing under utilised, they are more expensive than platinium plugs. It's money throwing into the drain. The man then took out a spark plug from my car to find an appropriate size.

 

I took their recommendation and bought a set of NGK high performance Platinium spark plugs (4 pieces) and also replace the original spark plug cables to NGK high performance cables. If you want to know more on high performance cables, you can just get into the website, type high performance spark plug cables and get the details.

 

After installing the above, I could feel a big difference in the performance due to the 'ignition firing'. The above are 2 of the other performance devices that I added/replaced in my engine.

nope, cause at any one given time, only 2 ground electrodes are being used not value for money IMO, if I were to choice multiple ground electrode plugs, I rather go for just normal copper plugs that comes with twin ground electrode, cheap and good

During my seriving, my mechanic checked my spark plugs and tell me they are still good and doesn't require changing yet! Can't be got business to do, they still don't recommend me to change spark plugs mar....right?

time and time again, its proven a street car runs best on oem plugs. in fact for a car like altis, plugs change is so easy, buy the standard plugs and change as often as you like.

The thinner and smaller the tip, the sooner it dies. As long as the tip is small and sharp, it will retain heat and will glow very hot. I know Ir has mp of 2000+ deg C but how long can it last? The copper core is what counts in the conductivity.

Ironically platinum as a metal is more expensive than iridium. If Pt plugs are cheaper than Ir, I'd rather get Pt.

 

Actually the difference is better idling. Plugs affect emissions a lot more than all out performance. For all out performance, Cu is better.

 

You have to understand your ignition system too. If your car runs on wasted spark, better get double Pt or Pt/Ir hybrid. If not, a regular precious metal tip is good enough.

Denso Iridium got 2 type, one is IK series and most owner find that they can last about 30k km, if they redline a lot, then about 20k km. The other one is VK series, known as Denso Tough Iridium, these ground electrode are coated with platinum and this can last at least 70k to 90k km

but my ride manualstates "only use iridium spark plugs" so how ???

btw i used the SK series (stock iridium for toyota) and fuel consumption is higher and car pickup is sluggish...

changed to the ik-20, and now pickup more responsiveand fuel consumption improves....just as good as ngk iridiums (non IX).....next time i order ngks from u ok ?

as long as the plug type is same as the state in your car manual, it can be used irrespective if it's copper, platinum or iridium based but must make sure the gap size is the correct one NGK iridium IX is 0.6mm tip (center electrode) as compare to 0.4mm for Denso iridium IK, IMHO, they are both as good.
