When I switched to Shell, I notice improvement in mileage. Now always use Shell. Cracker 1st Gear September 9, 2014 Share September 9, 2014 I was among the first few in spore to own the optra when it was launched. Before that, I was driving the honda ek3. Plus pt of the car...very stable due to its weight.....no floating feeling when traveling at ard 120 Kmh compared to the ek3....during my trip in Malaysia. I ever rear hit a car due to sudden brake in a ponding situation... The other car, a jap made, rear was gone while the only damage to my optra was a small dent in the license plate Negative pt,,, I probably gotten a lemon and had hell lots of problem in the first 6 mths. Even the snr supervisor at the wksp knew my case upon mentioning the license plate. FC wise, I bought the manual knowing this car was a drinker...I could get ard 11 to 12 km/l. Just maintain yr car well n u too sud b able to get what I am getting on my 2006 Optra Estate Auto. When I first bought it 2nd hand I was getting abt 9-10Km/lit. Then I changed the original steel 14" rims n put 16" original Chevy sports-rims n 45 series tires. My FC improved to abt 10-12km/lit. Later I did my DIY grounding on the engine n other parts n now am getting abt 12-14km/lit. I dun know why many pple complain that Optra has bad FC but I find mine pretty decent. I do abt 30% City n 70% Hway driving. If I do long distance on Msia Hway I get much better even cos just cruising along. I ever owned a 2nd hand 08 optra manual one and half year, Average FC 10~11km/L, Malaysia HW can get 13+km/L at most traval speed 120+km/h, tyres 195/55/R15 like its stable, handling, decent interior space, dislike its sluggish, noise engine, gear position not clear Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Optramagnum 6th Gear December 30, 2014 Share December 30, 2014 Is optra quiet enough? After I installed grounding kit, the engine became more quiet and less vibrating. But strangely my FC increased significantly, from ~10.5km/l to ~9.3km/l. And the car seems to lose some power when accelerating. I dun install heavy ICE, all stock except rims upsize to 16". Simonlow76 Neutral Newbie January 25, 2015 Share January 25, 2015 I got my Optra 1.6A in 2005, and scrapping the car soon(250K). Overall, the consumption is between 10-11km/l, as the body is heavy as compared to Jap cars. If use a Jap engine, consumption would still be the same. I do normal servicing, with 60K timing belt, water pump change. Never did ATF change. However, it doesn't have a cutoff sensor, thus causing my aircon pipe to freeze and subsequently no cool air. So I install a sensor to overcome it. Only plus point is stable during driving, and safety(good for family with kids) as I've been involved in two accidents before( Happy to say is other people faults, and claim their insurance). Both cars suffer extensive damage while mine is minor. One car even deploy airbag also(funny). Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Cbx750p 1st Gear April 26, 2015 Share April 26, 2015 (edited) The Optra is heavy and coupled with an inefficient 1.6 engine & equally inefficient 4/OD speed transmission, this Koreamericanthai car is a real drag on the road. I owned a 1.6 manual for about 2 years. The MT gear box is not efficiently geared....so travelling at 100 kmph on the NSH, the engine is spinning at 3000 rpm. My fuel consumption was like 8 to 9 km/litre which was strange when compared to the 10 km/litre on the auto. Power wise, the manual was better than that of the auto but the fuel consumption and gearing killed it ! Nevertheless, the space and handling of the Optra gave it the leading edge over the Jap/Thai counter part. BTW, any Optra owner interested in a spare fuel pump ? But I find the 3rd to 4th gear abit too draggy.. Need to hit almost 80km/h to up shift. My FC is 11-12km/l,80% Highway..
