Hi,

Read last Sun's papers about the article on PI cars & one person mentioned that PI cars are still not tropicalised for SG as the radiators & fans are still small compared to the cars imported by the official agents here.Any truth in this? Thought this was an issue sorted out long ago? Any comments from current PI car owners? [confused]

wats ANTS?

I'm also not very sure about this issue of "tropicalisation" of cars by ADs.

Not too long ago a FIAT dealer was explaining to me that new FIAT cars in SG is actually tropicalised with various modifications to the electrical system & wiring as well as radiators and fan.

Therefore, if you compare the local FIATs and europe FIATs, they are slightly differnt in this aspect.

I think ANTS are those creatures that are black in colour that crawl... you know... chinese call MA YI... anyway, i think if we're buying from a PI, should buy from the bigger companies like Hua Yang. Reliable service and you know that they should still be around in the few years that you have your car. Remember the incident when the Toyotas were recalled with a steering problem, I think it was this year, some Wish owners were left stranded because their PIs had already closed down.

roach egg cases are worse. if left unchecked, the car will become cockroach theme park.

anyway if it is a must to buy a PI car then buy from reputable companies like cartimes, huayang, ricardo, etc.

Whoa! The person interviewed must be an ah pek!

Car manufacturers in the first place will sort out which are the lots(of cars) being exported and those for domestic sales.

There should not be any issue on this even if they take domestic cars for export like JDMs. If it were to be from Japan should be no problem cos their summer also as warm as our all year round temp.

Surprised ! Can imagine that the IS250 is something that is so expensive, I would have expect it to be stored in a nice dry place. Ants don't migrate their colony from place to place by feet ! They send out their colonisation Mama & Papa by flight by the thousands. Once a pair meet, they will find a cosy place to mate and reproduce. Guess where BM stored their Lexus was an ideal place for these creatures to have met and mated. The rest is just nature.

Just your brother's luck to have got a car like that ! When did he discover it ? A day or two after delivery or months later ? It could have made the difference. These creatures could have landed after delivery and formed a colony after a week of so !

Only way around it, keep your car dry and away from damp places. Do not keep food stuffs in the car. They cannot survive if they have no food.

If your car is 100% pure leather, those creatures can chew on it, bit by bit. After few years you could see some parts chewed away. Mostly affected area are the underside of the seat. My past car affected once. [furious][furious][furious]

A friend of mine bought a WISH from an PI. He had a major accident in Malaysia. Guess what? The parts have to be air freighted from Japan as the PI nor Borneo carried some of the parts. His car was lying in the workshop for 4.5 [sweatdrop] months. Worst still the roof that was air freighted from Japan had was slightly bent and twisted.I supposed damaged in transit or somehere along the way. The insurance company refused to pay for the air freight for another replacement. In the end had to make do with the repaired new roof or else he had to wait another 4 to 6 months. He swear he will never never buy another car from a PI. The inconvenience he faced wasn't worth it. So beware - don't be penny wise pound foolish.

Yet another fact on why PI cars not for the faint hearted and I am not saying that ADs don't have such issues. If you consider how AD workshops work and how PI workshop works, you will understand how PI workshops work. They don't keep ex-stock for rear replacement parts, cause most likely, the service cars of various makes so it's not economical to do so. So if that particular workshop don't have, they try their kakis.. if don't have, they check with AD spare parts dept.. if they don't have, then have to import themselves loh.
