Fondue Neutral Newbie April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 The Bangkok Mayfair is lovely. Just a short walk to the shopping malls and skytrains. However, the plot right next to it is under construction, and most of the one-bedroon apartment faces it. When I was there in January, it was already built till level 7. I asked for high floor and they gave me 17th so I'm not too bothered by the construction. Bring along you swimming gears too. The roof-top pool is pretty cool . The Italian place on the ground floor serves very decent food too, abeit just slightly cheaper than SGP. GOod when you are lazy to venture out. Genie47 1st Gear April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 Siao! Must request high floor! Dunno leh, second day I want to go to Ayutthaya. Stay until late into the night. I saw pics of the ruins when the floodlights hit them after dark. Very nice. Like mysterious lost civilization you see in the movies. Dunno which driver can drive me there and back late at night. Moira Neutral Newbie April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 - airfare not included. Imagine budgeting a chunk for stay but you still have not factored in travelling costs. so no go for me. airfares included* this points can be converted to marriots rewards points and there are travel & accomodation packages where u spend like total 150,000 MRP for 7 night stay in cat 5 hotel inclusive of 2 return airtickets from SQ. i'm a member as well. actually 150k MRP cant get u 2 SQ air tickets. the charts that they showed are not really accurate. check the awards chart from SQ to get a better idea
Emils 2nd Gear April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 i went but didnt sign up cause i wasnt ok with the monthly premiums and the payment duration. usually i travel via packaged tours or free & easy, so this scheme dosent suit me I just went recently too and didn't sign up. Took a one-night stay at Ritz Carlton and left. I think there are too many variables and too many factors to consider in assessing whether to take up this membership. Thus, being the risk-adverse person that I am, I decided not to sign up and keep myself free to go for holidays as and when I can afford them. Moira Neutral Newbie April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 But must save and convert points like siao to get there for those with low points like me. BTW, do you know you can buy Marriott Reward Points? Don't believe me? Go to the Marriott Rewards Website to check. They sell by USD and now USD so low! However maximum can only buy 50k a year. think 50k points cant even get u a sq air ticket to msia
Fondue Neutral Newbie April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 (edited) If construction is already at 20th floor how If you have a couple of hours to spare, can also go checkout the Marriott Spa & Resort. Ask the desk for direction to the Skytrain station by the river. Marriott and most of the other hotels by the river have complementry ferry service from the jetty at the skytrain station. Just need to hop on to whatever hotel you wanna go. No question ask. The ferry ride from the jetty to MArriott Spa & Resort is 15mins, at 15min interval. We really enjoyed the ride as it offers an execllent view of the new condo developments along the river. Marriott Spa & Resort also has a bakery that makes excellent heavy bread on the ground floor. Genie47 1st Gear April 6, 2008 Share April 6, 2008 Thanks for the tips for a free river boat ride. Will check it out but will not use the spa services. Kanchanaburi has this place called Suan Nanachaat. Countryside. Should be cheaper.

Dwoon 1st Gear April 8, 2008 Share April 8, 2008 (edited) Looks like we're going opposite directions. This July, I'm booked for a week at the Phuket Beach club. As for the Mayfair, the inside is great. Service is also fantastic.... only difficulty is the darn taxis either do not want to run the meter to the hotel, or they don't even want to go there at all. Apparently, to get to that stretch of Lumpini area, they have to go through the horrible jam in the city. Anyway, there's a new development at Mai Khao and offering 20% discount on the points. But I decided against it since there is a high risk of noise, dust and construction debris lying around. I heard from the club rep that Bali resort will be ready by end of the year. Say Yeshe, how come they gave you 150K MRPs? Did you also get 30K club points since you signed up for 30K? (i.e. free 1 years points but must be used within the 1st year and cannot convert to MRP?) Errr.... what can I get for 450K MRP? At least you got 30k points. I have 14k a year. No it is not an investment. Don't fool yourself into thinking that it is. It is prepaid vacations. I'm going to Bangkok this May. Will be staying at the Mayfair Exec Apartments. From what I know, this place is good. Dwoon's review has not been harsh. Looking forward to staying there for 2 nights. Will be heading off to Kanchanaburi for 2 nights (fork out own cash) and then back to the Mayfair before flying off. Got Jetstar tix on promo last month for the trip. They got HK and Gold Coast up. They have been very strategic in their points. HK uses up a lot more points while Gold Coast a lot less. You know why? Flight tix to Gold Coast more expensive. Also have to consider the transfer from Brisbane since Gold Coast has an airport but it is not an international airport. However, I must tell you. The star of the chain in this region is the Mai Khao at Phuket. If you got cameras like the photo siao guys at Clubsnap, confirm lots of opportunities to shoot advertisement standard resort photos. Dwoon 1st Gear April 8, 2008 Share April 8, 2008 You forgot to mention that there's a massage palour/spa right opposite the road from the apartment. Prices are slightly higher but my wife found them to be good.... practically was there every night of our stay. The Bangkok Mayfair is lovely. Just a short walk to the shopping malls and skytrains. Vin002 Clutched April 8, 2008 Share April 8, 2008 "Marriot Experience" Actually, this Marriot thing is not cheap after considering the yearly maintenance. May consider if I have no other vacation desination in mind but Marriot Resorts. However, I like their services and attitude... Never hard sell. As hotels rate has been increasing, I got the $88 Ritz Carlton stay instead for last year... Paid additional to upgrade to a sea view which regreted initally as it has only construction view. However, later in the evening, I strike 4d $2K...
