Thanks so much for the memories! St Matthew's was my kindergarten! Keong Siak and then adjoining Duxton Plains was my playground!

I actually didn't know what Keong Siak Rd was all about till very much later - always looking in awe at the red lanterns [;)]

No pics of the Crocodile factory?

i was from St Matt kindergarten as well... next to it was the creepy looking Fairfield Methodist Girls School (now become co-ed leow) ..... [laugh][laugh][laugh]

In my days we normally would tell the pirate cab to drop us at almost end of Bencoolen Street and from there we walked to school. If the cab turned to Bras Basah, the price would be different from 20c or 30c up by 10c.

Tree Planting aka "Gotong Royong". [laugh][thumbsup]

The bus ticket looks familiar same as those stamps. I used to collect stamps when I was a baby [sly] so I can still remember them. [laugh]

Can't believe you collect stamps when you were a baby. Baby only goes for breast milk in those days. You forgot that?

Sometimes no breast milk, we got condensed milk - Dutch Baby!

Rgd Bukit Batok stairs, yup that's the one and looking at your photos that place hasn't changed a bit!

Rgding the Merdeka Bridge lions (think there were 2 of them - one at each end), last I heard ST reported they are now housed somewhere in SAFTI Camp.

I remembered ST also reported that one of the lions was dumped somewhere in the stadium area.

Their Root Beer float was a specialty. Their RB is different taste from F&N Sarsi.

I also enjoyed their super unhealthy burgers with fries. But those days I cud eat junk food all day long. [nod]

And we cud drive in & park right in front. Plus was free parking. [thumbsup]

Remember there's a huge blue "oil drum"-like structure near the junction of Lavender Road-Kallang Road?

It has been demolished for many years. Wonder who owned that building.

Got pics for that?

=======================

Those blue "drums" were the tanks used to hold PUB gas & was known as Kallang Gasworks.

If u were observant, u wud have noticed the tanks can rise & fall depending how much gas was inside them.

It was removed as considered too dangerous as many houses were already built in the vicinity & if the tanks exploded, can u imagine how many pple wud b killed & injured.

The stone lions (2 I think?) were guarding Merdeka Bridge and Nicoll H'way. I believe the lions were removed & placed somewhere else. Issit Sentosa? [confused]
