How often can you polish the car

One of my office neighbours used to polish his car regularly, like once a fortnight. The car was alway parked in covered residential parking lot. Before a year, his new car lost the shine and the colour became dull.

So how often can we polish our car. Once a month ok?

If u r talking abt the "real" polish which is using machine to grind, then try not to do it too often as it is actually removing a layer of the oxidise paint. Regular maint like washing and hand wax shld be done regular for long-term maintenance.

some super siao on people detail their cars weekly and the car still shines after many years. and i've read somewhere that showcar owners even do that DAILY!

so i think its not the frequency of polishing that caused your friend's car to lose its shine. could be the products he used and his application techniques.

hi dumb,

i would think there is no fixed intervals of time to polish/wax/detail our car.

its all down to our own preference and time availability.

my old man used to wax his car every sunday without fail. despite it being a COE car, the paintwork still looks pretty good.

Polishing removes a very thin layer of the clear-coat or paint every time u polish. This helps to remove any fine scratches & swirls that have been put there by washing etc. Only polish when the paint finish looks dull or u can see many fine scratches but not more then twice a year to preserve the paint.

Waxing is applying a layer of wax on the paint to protect it from the elements & such. The more often u wax the better as it then builds up layer over layer of wax to give better protection to the paint. Always wax only a very clean & dry car.

Claybar and polish bi-annually with Meg's #80, Menzerna PO85RD 3.01 if panel condition is bad.

For maintenance, its OCW after weekly washes and CarLack68 + Meg's #16 moonthly.

I think the most practical approach is to use paint protection system. PPS is used to the seal the shine of your car. The money you spent on detailing will offset the cost of PPS in no time.

I like your style.

Sometimes, respraying the entire car is cheaper too considering the price of car polish nowadays..

but depends on the make of the car too...
