With frequent lutting on 2nd gear [laugh][laugh][laugh]

 

11.3km/l ++ consider ok liao given that i've got 17", running on an aftermarket Exhaust, with sound proofing on 4 doors & simple ICE [laugh][laugh][laugh]

 

There are worst days when it is at 9km/l ++ but that was when it was running in [;)]

My spark plug is about 1 year old.

 

Will new spark plug reduce FC? How significant will it be if it really does.

 

Does good quality spark plug plays a role in FC reduction also?

Hi...I always wanted to ask about that. Reason? I do manual calculation based on what I pump and the distance travelled and that's the average I posted. About 12.5km/l. The electronic meter actually shows different results. It is actually higher.

 

Can you help me explain? [dizzy] Initially, I was very impressed but grew sceptical and did manual recording and calculation instead and got the lower figures. The electronic meter usually shows about 2 km/l more on the average.

 

As mentioned, I drive a 3-year old Camry...I don't think the previous owner did any mod on it. Seems like pretty stock to me. I also tend to let the car roll between traffic lights as much as I can without obstructing traffic as 80-90% of my driving is around my estate--fetching kiddos to school and back etc. Only about 10% on highways in a single week if I'm fortunate.

 

Please advise wrt the electronic meter thingy...appreciate it lots. [:)]

 

I face the same problem ......

Do you think you really get 50 litres when the pump shows 50 litres?

Why do the petrol station in SG give 5% discount all the time (remember nothing in this world is free - they give 5%, they'll take back even more?

My fuel tank is 42 litres, and I ever pumped 44.7 litres - and my tank is not completely empty ...... WTF

Now you understand why manual calculation always give lower mileage?

Ouch. & I thought my swift's FC was bad... [:/]

 

I always asume that small cars have a better FC; larger cars' FC seems to be doing betta than mine...

 

Terrible - I bought my swift on the basis on saving fuel; should've got a Vios or Jazz instead... [sweatdrop]

I do not do much highway or city driving, 90% normal roads (in suburbs) with 9.2km/l. Have not completed 1000km yet... so perhaps the fuel numbers may improve after the 1st oil change.

Yes it is the TSI, and unfortunately that is the case....

Combined FC is actually supposed to be 11.5-12 (depending on which source you refer to).

 

Pics... nothing much at the moment... too busy to spend time taking proper shots.

 

Performance is decent... slower than my Civic and faster than my Presea.

High speed stability and general engine quietness makes it very easy to drive quickly on the highway.

It's the first time I had a car with a 6th gear that does 2000rpm @ 100kmh, and while easily returns 15-16km/L.... if I could continue doing that all the time....

Hi all i just joined this forum nice to meet you guys.

 

My08 WRX 2.5L 60 highway/40 city avg 9km/l shell 98/v power ( 3 tank 98 1 tank v power to "clean" engine)still breaking in and in my first mineral oil tank.

 

Best consumption 10km/l after first 3 tank of petrol

 

Worst to date 7km/l when i just got the car.

 

Better low end torque helps with consumption.(Max torque at 2.8k)

 

My driving style is accelerate up through the gears from 1-5 and get into cruising speed quickly. Once up to speed i use the pedal on pedal off technique to maximise consumption and trying not to go too fast.

 

Keeping the engine around 2.8k to 3k for minimal boosting even though its addictive to hear the turbine spooling.

Present Car (2008, March to present)

08 Volkswagen Passat 1.8T (Auto), mileage 4,000km in 45 days.

Average 8.25km/L - 60% HW / 40% City

Best 9.5km/L (80& HW/ 20% City)

Worst 6.5km/L (during first 1000km, 40% HW / 60% City)

 

Previous Car (2007, April to 2008, March)

07 Honda Civic 2L (Manual), mileage 26,500km in 11 months

Average 9.5km/L, 60% HW / 40% City

Best 10.5km/L (100% NSH, avg 160-200kmh)

Worst 7.75km/L (Testing phase, after 1000km run-in... avg rpm 4000-6800rpm)

 

Previous-Previous Car (2001, Oct to 2007, April)

91 Nissan Presea (Manual), mileage 180,000km in 6 years 6 months

Average 8.5km/L, 60% HW / 40% City

Best 10km/L (100% NSH, avg 150-190kmh)

Worst 6.5km/L (Busy sales day, rushing every where.... avg rpm 4500-7000rpm)

I used 35L in 225km in that one day!

For a decent acceptable performance (0-160 in 21s, 16.1s qtr mile) and decent fuel consumption, the Honda Civic 2L manual was simply as good as it gets.... :)

 

Oddly, if I drove my old Presea in the same way, even on highways..... it still out did my present "supposedly fuel efficient" Passat.... :(

 

Wow i read from mags Passat should be quite efficient. Did you always put it into boost range?

 

And drving from 4.5k to 7.5k in a honda is very enjoyable but how fast would that be haha? Honda engines are made to be revved hard. The Vtec whirring at high rev is a joy to behold.

How to avoid boost....it starts at 1500rpm

So with 1500 rpm @ 6th gear = 75kmh.

 

Yes it's always on boost.

 

 

For Civic, 4500rpm in 5th gear is about 149kmh wink.gif

6800rpm (rev limit) in 3rd is about 150+ too. tongue.gif

Of course in 2nd gear, 4500-6800 is generally 60-95kmh.

 

The K20Z engine is actually creamy smooth all the way to the rev limiter... not much of whirring or any sort of growl. In fact, my Passat's engine makes more noise when pushed hard.

New spark plug will give your ride a much 'Soon' feeling initially hence one would feel that the ride would be more responsive with the same driving style [nod][nod][nod]

 

After a couple of days, it will revert back to the same old feeling [nod][nod][nod]
