NMP questions benefits of 5-day work week

Thu, Feb 05, 2009

The Straits Times

MORE free time did not result in more babies, so people should go back to work on Saturdays.

Yesterday, Nominated MP Loo Choon Yong threw up the most provocative suggestion so far when he questioned the benefits of the five-day work week.

Speaking on the second day of the debate on the Budget Statement, he said the move by the public and private sectors in 2004 could have eroded Singaporeans' work ethic, while not improving the fertility rate in any meaningful way.

Why are we having this type of "brain" as a nominated MP?

It's ridiculous to even link another day of work with babies. People link babies with cost, definitely not because whether he has 1 day or two day rest.

And now with retrenchment going on, he still wants another day??? For what?? Is he align with the situation outside or not?

That is why he can only be NMP, just make noise from background but no ppl will take him seriously. [scholar]

The idea behind a 5 days work week is to promote family bonding and not to stay home to bonk. If they need babies so badly, then they could have better innovations like polygamy (allowing more than 1 wife) or polyandry (more than 1 husband). [sweatdrop]

Agree, tv program really takes up much of our life. [laugh] Back to those 40's or 50's, not much tv and tv programs, all parents so hardworking and we ended up many aunties and uncles. [grin]
