This thing about the ears being self-cleaning is all rubbish . . . . my son and wife ever dig out by themselves big lumps of earwax.

I tried but cannot [:|]

Ear self-cleaning doesnt work for me de. Thats why my ears easily get infection.

I feel that pple should just go to the ENT specialist to clear their ear wax rather than going through the dripping of drops before syringing.

I have done both methods before and I will go for the ENT anytime. Ear block or ear pain can be an excruciating experience; it affects quality of life, your work and the people around you. I find it more excruciating than toothache. I can withstand pain inside my mouth, but when one ear is blocked 24/7, the sound imbalance made it a torture.

ENT is expensive, but it gets the ear unblock in 10 minutes by using a machine to vacuum out the wax. It is probably the most instant gratifying experience you can buy.

Must see you go private ENT or govt hospital ENT lo, govt ENT should be cheaper esp if you referred by polyclinic.

I went to the private one because I just want to unblock my ear quickly to end the agony. Life is too short to waste another week with the ear block with slight humming noises all the time.

It may be expensive (few hundreds I think, but  I did both ears since I was already there) , and I get to see images of before and after deep into the ear canal. They will even print out the colour photos for me....

A lot of patients don't know how to administer the ear drops properly. That is why some complain that ear drops (antbiotic/wax softeners) don't work. Key is to pump the tragus. What is that?!!!

See this well illustrated and explained video:

Good and informative video!

Private ENT can use Medisave?

Don't think so, but I am not too sure.

I know it is expensive, but it is not a yearly activity.  And because the machine allows the doctor to see the entire canal all the way down to the eardrum using a scope, he can vacuum it until clean.

I did syringing before, but that one week of dripping was an agony due to the sound imbalance. It affected my sleep because there was a slight humming noise all the time when one side is block.

Yeah, this humming sound damn irritating. I had to do 10 days of dripping becoso of that silly counter staff at the clinic. Gave me wrong instruction.

My earwax rock hard so I think ENT may need me to soften it first.

Now into 9th day of dripping. Got whoosh whoosh sound from the ear when I tilt me head left and right. I was half expecting the earwax goo to flow out if I tilt 90 degrees to the left.

Just one more day and it will be the most gratifying feeling ever....

I remember the first time I did syringing,  after both ears are cleaned, suddenly every sound becomes crisp, sharp and very stereo like....

I always tell audiophiles, the cheapest way to upgrade their sound system instantly is to get their ears cleaned.  And I am not kidding....

Indeed true, cleaning of ears are important. To avoid ear infection and also ‘hearing loss’. Lol.

DAMN! My frickin' family doctor played me out.

Rushed down to his clinic after work to see him about getting my blocked ear syringed after 5 days of proper dripping to soften the ear wax.

Checked and said good that the infection has cleared and could now see tge ear drum.

Was delighted and wanted to proceed with the ear flushing to get rid of the ear wax.

No, no need for that and he will not be doing as the ear wax is still hard he said!

But why?! I questioned.

Just continue dripping he replied. Now twice a day and let it clear.

My ear is still blocked you know?

Just drip will do. Okay, that's all and he chased me out the room.

WTH!!

What do I do now? He did tell me in the previous consultation "no problem, I can do it".

Really KNN to the max!!

HELP! Any ENT to recommend, please?
