Ahtong 1st Gear April 18, 2009 Author Share April 18, 2009 I think the TS is simply not a very understanding and helpful friend. When my friends ask me, I always try to help. Not really. I am trying to teach people to fish but they expect me to always fish for them.
Amortifiedpenguin Clutched April 18, 2009 Share April 18, 2009 i normally check street directory before leaving. then i when i drive off, i'll get lost for awhile and after that i'll remember how not to get lost again. its better to build your own gps in yr head. i learn better from mistakes. Sony 1st Gear April 18, 2009 Share April 18, 2009 I have a friend who just bought a car and HE has been constantly asking me how to get here or there. I told him to get a street directory but he says he prefer to ask for directions. How come there are still people who don't know or don't want to use a street directory? Is it that difficult to read a map? I feel that driving tests should have a segment where drivers are asked to navigate from point A to point B within a set time. some people cannot depend on landmark and they trust their friend more than road directory.. i have come across such people before.. what to do.. make them go holland a few times and they learn to get a better road direction giving friend.. Skinky 1st Gear May 22, 2009 Share May 22, 2009 I agree with you. I'm not sure why everyone doesn't have a street directory in my car. The number of times i have to direct people to my office is amazing. Ive already saved it in a template. Recently I've become really impatient with such people, especially suppliers. I'll tell them curtly to refer to a street directory as I do not remember the street names (ave 2, then st 3, then turn ave 3 blah blah). Once, a taxi driver called me (he was fetching my maid to my office to drop off something) and asked me to direct him to my office. At that time, I just moved to the new location and i told him the rough directions but he got lost. I got extremely fed up and asked him to go to the petrol kiosk before coming to my place and buy a street directory, I gave him a good scolding for not buying one. Wasting his time, my time and the passenger's time. Personally, if I'm in the car whole day and it's my bread and butter, i will buy a stinking street directory to put in my taxi. From what i understand, taxi drivers in london have to go through a test to see if they can navigate the streets of london. I dun think that's really necessary for sg but honestly, get a damn book. A gps helps, but a street directory is really invaluable, it's small, cheap and just so easy to have.

Sg2303 2nd Gear May 22, 2009 Share May 22, 2009 i always check online first. If i'm already on the road, street directory for me. GPS is good to have but sometimes unreliable. And difficult to follow with heavy traffic. Anyway to answer TS's question: No, the street directory is easy to read.

Hotamp 3rd Gear May 22, 2009 Share May 22, 2009 actually a good road directory is sufficient, choose those where the drawings are clear and spaced out nicely, there are some where everything is soooo cramped together that reading it while in the car is really a challenge

Mahjong74 Supercharged May 22, 2009 Share May 22, 2009 most of my friends who passed the age of 40 don't even have a street directory in their car. For me, I have also kept the street directory at home 10 years ago. Singapore is too small to get lost.
