i find that as one gets matured and has a family, you will start to consider for your own retirement and savings for the children

as long as you can live with the 'efficient' public transport, or perhaps a small car to move around, then i think it should be ok

i mean, why should we pay the exorbidant taxes to the garment?

in the USA, a Toyota Camry only cost US$20,000. But in SG, it cost US$60,000 (or more now).

so why should we pay 200% taxes to own the damn car for only 10 years?

Even if COE is low, will you buy?

For the past 8 years, there are cheap COEs.

If one wants to buy a car, he/she won't complain about such expenses.

Do this every night before you sleep.

Subconsciously, u will be motivated to work harder to own a car in future!

Well....I now own a BMW..... Maybe when coe drops to below 10k in future, I will want to fullfillmy dream of a Caymen!

You and DanielGSX are the same. Talk is cheap.

Fact is you dont even own a car. but just come in here and stir shi*t

Point is, I have no issue if people don't wanna buy car, not wearing watch or whatever. If they think its not worth it, or have other reasons. I don't buy because I need it, I only need food, air, water (& ensure that our species can continue..., but its another thing). Everything else is "want".

Agree...(look at my signature below)

relacker,

I respect your maturity, if only Danielgsx is as sensible as you.

Buying the 2nd most expensive thing after the house requires alot of planning.

So many pple got burned and some got their car repo, and some worse still, thinking to declare bankrupt - bcz of car.

I read all these in MCF.

Be patient. If you still aspire to own one, plan your budget and save to at least 30% DP

all the best

For me, wify's job(not sales tho) requires frequent travelling around and is cover for milage. Easily cover our entire month's petrol bill.

So practically our petrol is free every month.

If it wasnt for that, we will most definately get rid of the car......even though we have 2 kids.

Car expenses is very high in spore. Easily 10k to 15k a year. Imagine saving this amount multiple by 10 years!!!!:wacko:

So dont commit to a car unless absolutely necessary. [nod]

once coe shoot up above 20k, i give up owning a car.

for a person not yet hit even 5k/mth, no need to hit myself til chubby to be fat man.

wait for opportune time, maybe 1 yr maybe 10 yrs later. not bothered liao. but will still bio bio car adverts a bit.

anyway already thong for 8 yrs since i start work, i already very public transport person even though i in construction industry that usually easier when owning car , but i just LL, act blur when my boss say when i owning a car, i rather wait for him buy pickup then pay 30% of my salary on car

i believe car population may reduce a little if the current COE persist and continue moving upwards. i think most of the COE car owners will give up renewing COE, some may give up driving. it will also deter new car buyers especially those marginal car owners. Some people may even take the opportunity to sell their cars away to minimize losses.

btw TS, i would say its a wise move especially if you are not a car lover, its hard to justify spending so much on a car.

Well, i also have the similar scenario as you......But i am abit luckier because i am driving my dad's car while he ride bike to work instead.....

However, because as i am driving his car. I will make it a point in maintaining the car,etc.....

I hoped to get a car on my own someday because i am a car-avid......
