What temperature do you set for air con?

just being curious, does setting the temperature lower means fuel consumption is higher, higher temperature means low fuel consumption? or is it the same amount of fuel consumption regardless of any temperature?

Some cars are equipped with intelligent climate system, so I wonder if it is able to dispel humidity and regulate cabin temperature when set to auto mode?

Regards,

Ar :o ...... car aircon.....sorry.....I am talking about bedroom aircon....my bad. [blush]

For non-auto climate control car:

As long as the aircon button is pressed to on, the compressor will function according to how it was program to run ( full time or cutout etc depending on your car), with the compressor running, you will have the dehumidification function. therefore during raining day or driving during winter, it is advisable to keep the compressor running so that you will not have fogging from the cabin side of the windscreen

The other two things you can control are:

- Fan speed

- temperature ( the knob with the blue and red decal, some car only have blue)

For temperature, I normally turn it to full cool minus one knob, occassionally I will execise the temperature knob from full cool to full heat so that the regulator get to function full cycle.

- Fan speed will depend on my feel bah..... [laugh]

For auto-climate control car:

I will set it to between 22 to 25 depend on my feel.

temp settings has no bearing on FC, unless u manually turn it on n off.

Lets go back to basic:

Cooling

When the compressor run, the cooling coil will be cool by the "aircon gas".

The cooling coil serves two functions

1) cool the air that pass thru it and deliver it to the cabin

2) dehumidify the air that pass thru it by condensation. the water is removed by a drain tube, this is why we can see water dripping on the floor when we run the aircon in the car, especially in humid places like Singapore.

Heating

The same air that passing thru the cooling coil also pass thru a heating coil.

The heating coil can be electrical type or get the heat source from the water of the engine cooling system(radiator water). The heater will heat up when you set the temperature knob to the red zone. for auto-climate car, the set point for the heater to turn on is set by the manufacturer.

Whether heating or cooling, we are taking energy away from the engine, so theoretically speaking, FC will suffer a bit.

In my opinion, If one already committed to a car, one must factor in the fuel cost in the calculation of car ownership.

Just enjoy your car and don't be so disturbed by FC........wait some brother here may come our with a new term call FC whore... [laugh]

But really feel sad when people pay extra 10k to 20K because of good FC. I think it only make $ense if one cover distance like a taxi everyday.

IMHO

That will depend on outside air temperature. If outside air temp is at 30degrees or higher, I will set it at 25degrees and put everything else on auto. Outside temperature falls below 30, I will set to 24. If raining outside temp drops to 26degrees or less, I will set it to 21 degrees.

Fan speed set on auto, the feedback sensor and sunlight sensor will auto adjust the fan speed.

If you had noticed I usually set the difference of 5~6 degrees difference between outside and cabin temperature. That's also why for cars equipped with automatic climate control, there's usually an outside air temperature displayed. Its function is for the driver's reference to adjust the cabin temperature setting accordingly to weather.

Usually air-conditioning catered for buildings take settings of outside temperature as a reference and automatically adjust the indoor temperature. So that the difference between them will not be too close or too extremely apart. Too close you will feel discomfort, like kinda warm feeling. Too far apart ppl will catch a cold.

From From what I understand, set the temp below 23, cos at 25, the heater kicks in and it shortens the life? I heard this way back when i had my bmw

my temp is set to 18

I set it at 27 most of the time and sometimes 25 or 26 depending on the weather. Never went below 25 and now 4 years still no problem.

Neutral Newbie

so the question remains : setting of 18C and 25C , will the compressor cut in for a shorter time when temp is set higher (25C) ? or compressor works the same, but mix with hot air (heater) to reach the temp ?

ready somewhere that for climate control equipped cars, it actually do not cut off the compressor, it will mix with hot air.

so my question is, than what is tick sound when air con is on, isnt that the compressor? or is it something else?

I think must say wat car lah also.

My previous hyundai matrix no digital readout, set the temp knob to coldest always and play with fan speed.

Most of time at level 2 (I think total level 4) and max fan speed during hot days.

Matrix aircon no good always feel hot.

Current ride camry set to auto 24 deg irregardless of outside temp.

Toyota air con much more powerful.
