Exactly. Following too close makes it dangerous fr others to filter in. Thats why i feel pple follow closely cos ty dont want others to filter in front of them. Quite selfish attitude.

After awhile, I have to take the precaution that more/many who filter into such gap with/without prior signalling would jammed brake immediately (testing my reaction time/braking distance?)

More/many who filter into 2-3-cars length gaps, immediately jammed their brakes, for having excessively accelerated earlier to get into such gaps (any Lane 1, 2, 3, same). Any wise recommendation to share?

When i on lane 1 i always pull up behind e slower car 1st. If after a few seconds he stay in lane 1, its clear he has no intention of giving way.

 

Only then wil i overtake on lane 2 after checking if its clear. So far i hardly ever encounter ty move to lane 2 as i am overtaking on e left but i am always prepared just in case that idiot does it.

 

Drivivg on SG roads fr so long, I already honed my ''overtake on e left'' skill very well cos so many idiots like to hog lane 1.

Seems many travelling Lane 1 within speed limits are on their mobile. I usually do not pull up behind them. From a distance, I would look out for filtering into another lane (in case they got excited over the mobile and jammed brake) when I go behind them.

Candence braking needs to b practiced many times b4 someone can do it well under emergency situations.

 

Most pple panic n just slam on e brakes n keep pressing as hard as possible.

If u had checked ur mirrors and blindspot u should have noticed him speeding and the gap closing so u would have waited till he passed before filtering, even if he was speeding very fast he could not have just popped up beside u. I guess u didnt check carefully.

She only mentioned that she had checked her mirror. She did not mention how she did check blindspot, if she did. The other car (not speeding) already in her blindspot all the time and not within her mirror coverage, so she did not realized that.

Better be safe. More dangerous to guess when driving

Yup. He just keep 5 car length all the time when on expressways. Cuz he feels that it looks safe. Totally forget about the 2s rule.

Perhaps some refresher driving lessons could help

I hv been caught unawares by this type b4.I admit sometimes i was not concentrating 100% on e road.

Perhaps that car in the mirror blindspot all the time? Unless she turned her head, she saw no car behind (missed the one besides her)

For someone who has not throughly learnt n practiced it, u r right. Normal panic behaviour is to step brakes as hard as possible n keep stepping as hard as possible.

 

Thats why ABS is 1 of e best safety functions u hv in yr car.

So sorry, I thought it is the car driver's reaction? ABS only try to compensate for all wheels skid continously when the driver did not practice cadence braking (driver never got the chance to improve skill). What if ABS malfunctioned when needed most (ever read of these on other forum)

I hv been driving fr >30 years n i was once a young boastful driver till i had an accident n i wud b humble fr some time n then e arrogance slowly seeps in again. Till my next accident.

agree with you fully~ Few on the road adheres to safety rules after passing their tests. Especially hate those who don't give signals and anyhow cut in. Even worst are those who don't signal, cut in, find the lane too slow and cut out again, all without signal... Think they are race champions, rush like mad, but only to reach the traffic light a few minutes earlier.

 

In singapore, speeding and rushing only save you a few minutes. But driving safely can save your life. Hope we'll all remind ourselves of this before we start our engine.

I would consider those drivers who zig-zagged lane to lane, with/without signalling to be trial and error drivers. I believe race champions do not practice trial and error driving. They practice very advanced driving techniques

Example: The traffic was a little heavy although no traffic jam along West Coast Highway at that point in time. A Lotus Elise driver did trial and error driving, zig-zagged among Lane 1, 2, 3. I within speed limit only overtook a few others who were travelling on Lane 3 (I never filtered into lane 1). Before reaching the traffic light before Jalan Buroh circus, I did overtook that Lotus Elise.

actually if the car is travelling very fast. unless you are in NSH which the car is travelling very fast. its likely you did not judge his speed when glancing at the mirror.

 

i know a lot of ppl just see mirro and blindspot clear then change lane. but did not consider ther movement speed of the car.

what i suspect was that because i was filtering left, the car was in my right side

then i filtered in slowly cause there wasn't any traffic, the car must have went from my right to my left thats why i didn't see the car at all

 

anyway i consider myself to be a safe driver, i always signal and give way and i frequently speak out against my friends who share experiences where they speed up to avoid people filtering into their lanes

but i really hate it when people tell me that i can't drive or that girls shouldn't own sports cars

 

genetically a male has nothing to his advantage to help him drive a car so it is ridiculous to say that males make better drivers!

unless somebody points out that males secretly have something like a 3rd eye behind their heads to help check for blindspots, i don't and won't believe that males are better drivers than females!

Actually males do have a certain genetic advantage when it comes to driving. It is proven (scientifically) that males (collectively) have better spatial perception than females. This means that they are better at judging speed and distance. Of course - this is collectively, it says nothing about one individual vs another.
