richard_crl032 6th Gear November 17, 2018 Share November 17, 2018 (edited) Hi Richard Not sure change to thicker engine oil would help. Driven my close to 11mths, t he engine is LOUD. My wife was stun at first day start engine in quiet mscp but now ok....Haha. Hi Pat, Indeed start of engine is loud but seems mazda skyactive engines are such .. new mazda 3 started beside me at office carpark and same loudness heard. However, loudness when starting engine does not bother me but the vocal engine on pick up with a bit of hurried disposition is when I hope run in, synthetic eo and perhaps thicker engine eo would alleviate. No perfection but every bit helps which I found out on all these modification and you may get to your satisfaction level albiet subjectively so. The quest continues ... now at DATs Auto in rare aircon ws to get rid of the ridiculous stock car cam between rear view mirror and the raised dashboard display as well as Dr. Artex's Red Wind inserts into the stock door insulation which I had positive experience in forester xt. Cheera. Richard Richard, I just changed to the 2018 mz6 dark 17 inch rims. Paired with Pirelli P7 Cinturato. The ride comfort is now much much better compared to my stock 19 inch. The dark 2018 17" rims looks similar in color to the 19" so I'm happy with them. The increase in comfort and quietness plus reduction in harshness is very significant. Now can do the red wind for wind noise and I'm done. I won't advise anyone to upgrade to 19 unless u really want the sporty look. Don't understand why they give 19 as stock for 2.5 when the ride quality is affected so much. For those interested, before and after look for 19 vs 17. Hence no 19" for my forester xt and you will also enjoy notable FC reduction over next full tank ..guaranteed but yet even better pick up with your 2.5 Now at DATs Auto and later to change out my 1 week old gun metal 17" rim with neighbour's 2 mths old pre FL ones and also trade in stock tyres for michelin Primacy 4 ST. And the quest continues ... lol ! Cheers. Richard Edited November 17, 2018 by richard_crl032 ↡ Advertisement

richard_crl032 6th Gear November 17, 2018 Share November 17, 2018 (edited) Mine is loud only first cold start in the morning. It rev hard to warm up. After the first start, the rest of day is quiet.Hi S2s1, Indeed but a bit more spirited pick up and the skyactive engine roars not in the nice way that I used to hear from my forester xt's boxer engine :( Leisure pick up is fine but getting from side road to main road and across traffic junctions are unavoidable and that is when it gets a bit disappointing. Not familiar with P7 but Pirelli Scorpion Verdes tried on my Forester xt is not bad ... think Land Rover Evoque and others using it while P7 may be more performance orientated which is also good choice for yr more powerful 2.5l since 17" should be 225mm which is not a lot of rubber. Cheers. Richard Yup pirelli is oem tires on a few conti brands now. P7 is more touring than performance tires. It is surprisingly quiet and comfortable. Comparable to the continental CPC I had previously. As for the engine noise u encountered, sorry to hear that but it is a common complaint that the 2.0 may be underpowered. This may be more obvious for u esp with the increased in weight for the 2018.

Hi Hobbes, Just googled and the profile of P7 and Scorpion Verdes are almost exactly the same. P7 is a bit older before Scorpion Verdes which is touted with improved noise reduction and also targets for SUV. Not sure if your cpc is cpc6 that I also tried on my forester xt but it is no way a quiet tyres compared to scorpion verdes and certainly significantly noiser than the primacy 3 ST that I finally settled for ..yes, all within 1 mth since I am OCD on noise .. lol ! Think not because it is underpowered but skyactive engine characteristic when driven a bit harder since leisure driving is fine .. I have driven also underpowered 2.4l Toyota estima and others but it is not as vocal between leisure and spirited driving. Of course some estima owners are happy with its power while I certainly felt that it is underpowered .. even 350nm 240 bhp forester xt can underwhelmed in certain situation and hence kakis still mod like mad but both estima and forester do not sound vocal like this mazda 6 when pushed in a not nice way. Even the 1.2 turbo qashqai with clunky gearbox and confirmed underpowered engine for the big body that I had for 3 yrs before this mazda 6 2.0 never sounded as vocal when wacked by yours truly. Nevertheless 2.5 mazda 6 with more torque will indeed be able to pushed before expectedly same loudness intrudes but then again, I had been corrected also on 2.0 NA getting typical 7l+/100km without some "kungfu" driving tips that some bros shared here and you have the experience and knows it better for sure. The 2 were about same price. Ended up choosing pirelli. Hi Hobbes, First of all, wife super happy now back to F770 with no more block view by ridiculous stock Blaupunkt car cam .. saved back precious but already limited view estate with the lowered rear view mirror due to safety cam and raised display. Hope bros booking mazda 6 can get back some $ instead of this Blaupunkt car cam since seems autokar does not offer any other and do note F770 has nice cable mgmt with almost none of wiring seen as compared to any other in the market. Back to Dr. Artex's red wind, drive from kaki bukit road 4 to yck indicate positive overall noise suppression ... however, wind noise isolated and most prominent behind driver's right ear is still an irritant but pls note audio system is off. Any regret on 200+ for this red wind thingy? Not at all since did not expect a miracle but overall reduced noise is very much welcome ! Later update on switch to michelin primacy 4 ST compared to stock Bridgestones T005A. Cheers. Tohto Hypersonic November 17, 2018 Share November 17, 2018 Hi Pat, If you are on nshwy at 130-140kmhr, you will be >3k rpm and this sports mode works. Still finding engine very vocal after 1 weeks and 500km compared not to lexus or s class .. just forester xt and 1.2 qashqai. Hope better when runs in and will change to synthetic eo and will ask for thicker synthetic eo if new synthetic eo still dun help. Cheers. Richard I believed your FXT will be more smooth and refine since it is boxer engine.
richard_crl032 6th Gear November 17, 2018 Share November 17, 2018 (edited) I believed your FXT will be more smooth and refine since it is boxer engine.Hey Tohto Think boxer is never a refine or quiet engine but it should be one of least vibration since laid horizontally in opposing manner. At idle, mazda 6 is certainly quieter but when pushed, it just gets vocal and not so nice sounding. The Jekell and Hyde nature of the Mazda 6 is not as apparent in forester .. not even the less endowed forester 2.0 NA and hence think it is the charaxteristic of the skyactive engine today. Cheers. Selanking 2nd Gear November 17, 2018 Share November 17, 2018 Manual say first 600 or 1000 miles needs run in, avoid full gas, but never mention the rpm.No special break-in is necessary, but a few precautions in the first 1,000 km (600 miles) may add to the performance, economy, and life of the vehicle. Do not race the engine. Do not maintain one constant speed, either slow or fast, for a long period of time. Do not drive constantly at full-throttle or high engine rpm for extended periods of time. Avoid unnecessary hard stops. Avoid full-throttle starts. U saw this too?

Even happier when she found out the michelin primacy 4 ST are so much more quiet than the stock bridgestone T005a ... and it is day and nite difference which I dun not use often in my mods venture. It had been a busy but great Sat with also resolved blocked view via thinkware F770 and Dr. Artex's Red Wind door insulation mod :) Any bros collecting their new mazda 6 should really consider having their stock tyres changed out and earlier the betta for more of sgd240 that I got and also be awared of this blocked view issue with stock car cam. Hi ER, Aaah .. din know .. thanks for the info. Guess I will ask for ?W-30 then if run in and synthetic eo dun alleviate while noting at expense of poorer FC. There should be no concern with such slightly thicker oil since there is a range of working temp but will now check out the manual. Just drove out for dinner and with quieter tyres and overall noise, the engine noise become more apparent .. the downside of such sound improvement as found previously with forester .. it is relative until you cover all aspects.
